00:00Twelve crew members were rescued from the burning of a cargo vessel in Nasugbu, Batangas yesterday.
00:06Now, we will be joined by Lt. Cmdr. Michael John Encina, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Philippine Coast Guard.
00:13Good morning to you, Lt. Cmdr. Encina.
00:18Yes, Ma'am Susan. Good morning.
00:20Sir, was the burning of a cargo vessel in Nasugbu, Batangas mentioned yesterday?
00:26Well, yesterday, upon the conduct of rescue operations by the Philippine Coast Guard and our rescue teams,
00:34we immediately conducted what we call MCI, or Marine Casualty Investigation.
00:41We deployed a team to conduct initial investigation, particularly by initially first interviewing our crew members.
00:51And according to the said activity, we learned that the fire came from its funnel,
01:04where, due to the strong winds, some styrofoam stuck to the funnel,
01:12and that's why there was an initial spark, or fire, here in the MV Caspil ship.
01:18Sir, were all of the crew members rescued?
01:21Yes, all of the 12 crew members of the MV Caspil were properly rescued.
01:31We also gave them first aid treatment immediately.
01:36So, all of them are now in the medical care of the Philippine Coast Guard Headquarters.
01:42Were there any serious injuries to them, sir?
01:46In our report, there were no serious injuries.
01:51The good thing about this is that when the PCG received the information that there was a report of a fire,
01:59we immediately deployed a ship and immediately activated our quick response team here in the area of Margondon.
02:08That's why we were able to quickly rescue the crew of this ship.
02:13Sir, what is the load of the cargo vessel? Is there anything that needs to be taken care of?
02:19Well, when there's an incident like this, we anticipate the possibility of oil spill.
02:25That's why, as part of our preparation and mitigating measures,
02:28we deployed another ship yesterday to bring oil spill response equipments and oil spill booms to the area.
02:42The cargo of this ship includes rice packs and cement.
02:49It also has a load of almost 80,000 liters of diesel.
02:55So, this is what we are anticipating and preparing.
03:00Okay. Thank you very much, Lieutenant Commander Michael John Encina of the Philippine Coast Guard.
03:12Thank you for watching Integrated News on YouTube and tuning in to Unang Balita.
