00:09Yolanda Saldivar was denied early release from prison in Texas on March 27th due to
00:14the violent nature of the crime according to documents obtained by the Los Angeles Times
00:18from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
00:21The 64-year-old first filed for parole in January as she was eligible for early release
00:26on March 30th.
00:28According to the documents obtained by the Los Angeles Times, the crime has quote, elements
00:32of brutality, violence, assaultive behavior, or conscious selection of victim's vulnerability,
00:38indicating a conscious disregard for the lives, safety, or property of others, such
00:43that the offender poses a continuing threat to public safety.
00:48Yolanda is serving a life sentence following her conviction of first-degree murder for
00:53the killing of the Queen of Tejano music.
00:55Selena was 23 years old at the time when Yolanda shot and killed her at a Days Inn Motel in
01:00Corpus Christi, Texas on March 31st, 1995.
01:05Yolanda was the manager of Selena's clothing boutiques and the founder and president of
01:09her fan club.
01:10Days before the killing, Selena fired her over allegations that she was embezzling money.
01:16Following Thursday's decision, Selena's family and her husband Chris Perez issued a joint
01:20statement saying they were quote, grateful Yolanda would remain behind bars, adding,
01:25While nothing can bring Selena back, this decision reaffirms that justice continues
01:30to stand for the beautiful life that was taken from us and from millions of fans around the
01:35world far too soon.
