00:00For those who are business-minded Filipinos,
00:02know the story of an influencer marketing services business owner
00:07and the breadth of our knowledge when it comes to marketing and entrepreneurship.
00:11Joining us is Dian Medina, Illustred.
00:14Let's talk business.
00:22So Ms. Ace, can you tell us first your background?
00:24How did you start with this kind of business?
00:26I really started as a blogger in 2001.
00:29I was 11 years old then.
00:31And when I started, of course,
00:33we were just telling stories to our internet audience.
00:36There wasn't much social media yet,
00:38it was really just blogging.
00:40Then I realized with the advent of social media,
00:43there were so many opportunities.
00:45So I said, you know,
00:47it's good to explore these opportunities.
00:49And then because social media grew,
00:51brands also got interested in it.
00:53And the rest is history.
00:55How did you come up with the idea of entering into an influencer marketing business?
01:002011.
01:022011 was also the year that we started
01:05creating events with influencers
01:08whom we were just friends with before.
01:10Then we saw that
01:12our business friends
01:15and influencers who became a community,
01:17they seem to be having fun interacting with everybody else.
01:21So I said,
01:22you know, we have an opportunity here.
01:23Why not create this event all the time?
01:26It all started, you know, as a passion.
01:28Correct, yes!
01:30You get to do what you love to do
01:31and at the same time, you earn.
01:33Correct.
01:33And it became a business.
01:35How were the struggles and challenges?
01:37What are the unforgettable moments you can share with us
01:41when you were starting?
01:42One of the really remarkable moments is
01:45because I'm a woman,
01:47so it's hard in a generally male-dominated industry
01:52like business.
01:54Secondly, when I was starting,
01:56I was still young.
01:58And so it's always inevitable
02:01when you're young, to underestimate.
02:03So for me, those were the challenges.
02:06Of course, there are the challenges of money.
02:08When you're just starting,
02:09you don't really have that much money.
02:11But they say,
02:14just fight,
02:15and we did.
02:16One of the challenges, I guess, would be the pandemic.
02:19How did you stay afloat during the pandemic?
02:21That's when we felt growth.
02:22And we saw growth that we've never seen before.
02:25This is also the rise of social media.
02:27This is also the sudden increase of creators.
02:30During the pandemic, there were suddenly a lot of TikTokers.
02:32There were a lot of YouTubers.
02:34People had nothing to do at home.
02:36We had so much time.
02:37They had so much time, right?
02:39That's why a lot of netizens became creators.
02:43So it was also, honestly, a very good time for growth for us.
02:48There were more creators, more opportunities.
02:51People became more aware of the internet,
02:54and screens in general.
02:56So, honestly, the pandemic really was the growth spurt
03:01that we were waiting for.
03:02Why is it important for every Filipino to start a business?
03:06I think in business,
03:08there are unlimited opportunities to make money.
03:11It depends on hard work,
03:13perseverance,
03:15and maybe luck.
03:18It's also an opportunity for you guys
03:20to really make an impact.
03:22In my business, I felt or experienced
03:25that I can have this kind of effect
03:29that I'm doing for other people.
03:36Don't worry about things that you can't control,
03:39but focus on the things that you can do.
03:42That's what the business owner, Ms. Ace Gapos, taught us.
03:47We will share more business stories and business tips
03:50in our next episode.
03:52So, let's go!
03:53Let's do business!
