00:00Can the Minister outline what role her department has and what action it takes
00:05in terms of the removal of unauthorised flags, posters and signage from our
00:12street furniture and road sites?
00:15Well I think this has been an issue for ongoing debate.
00:18My department has a specific remit in relation to things that are
00:24obstructing roads or visual impact on motorists. However there are
00:30engaging, as the member will know, through, I suppose the member for
00:35South Belfast as well, has outlined around the removal of flags and who is
00:39responsible for those things because of some of the the contentious nature and
00:42the difficulties that those can cause.
00:45Mr. Duggan.
00:47I thank the Minister for her answer yes and I'm aware of the action that the PSNI has taken with the
00:52department and sometimes in the absence of support from the department around
00:56items that are considered inflammatory. But in terms of those that don't meet
01:00that threshold, what sort of message does the Minister think it sends out when
01:06our roundabouts and roadsides are festooned with her own party's political
01:12posters that are completely unauthorised?
01:14Well if you can point me to the examples of that I'm happy to ask
01:18officials to consider it but I'm sure there's many political parties have
01:21signs and banners up everywhere and we look at each one of them in
01:25individual cases.
