00:00Non-resident tourists in the country can now apply for the products they bought and brought when they left the Philippines.
00:10This is Kryzel Insigne of IBC 13 for Balitang Pambansa.
00:16As part of the administration's plan to strengthen tourism in the country,
00:21Malacanang announced the implementation of Republic Act No. 12079,
00:26or VAT refund for non-resident tourists.
00:29It was signed by the Department of Finance, Bureau of Customs, and Bureau of Internal Revenue
00:34as part of President Marcos Jr.'s Directive.
00:38Under the implementing rules and regulation of the law,
00:41non-resident tourists or foreign passport holders can now apply for the value-added tax or VAT refund
00:48for products from accredited stores that have a minimum spend of P3,000.
00:54Non-resident tourists or foreign passport holders can now apply for the products they bought and brought when they left the country.
01:02Some of the products that tourists can buy are clothes, gadgets, jewelries, food and non-food consumables,
01:10and some products for personal consumption.
01:13For every P100 spent by a tourist, it generates P197 of economic output.
01:21But the VAT refund will not only increase tourism.
01:26This will benefit the accredited stores.
01:31If they are accredited and they buy from them, they will be able to produce more.
01:38This is not an excuse and this will favor them, not only them but also our country.
01:45This will also help retailers to sell their products.
01:50When it comes to the VAT refund front that is widespread in other countries,
01:53Malacanang said that the government is ready to fight this.
01:57We should be ready for this.
01:59Only accredited stores will issue receipts so that we won't be fooled by tourists who claim to buy products from the Philippines.
02:13Although the number of non-resident tourists in the country is higher,
02:18it is expected to increase in the coming months.
02:21From IBC 13, Crisel Insigne for Balitang Pambansa.
