00:00I mean, this is an incredible feat.
00:02You have really put blood, sweat and tears.
00:04You directed this first episode. Yes.
00:07What was it like getting back on set and getting ready to call action?
00:09That first man?
00:10It was like it was like slipping on your most comfortable pair of jeans, you know?
00:16And it's funny, you go through this incredibly long, arduous process
00:20to make a first season.
00:22And boy, I mean, I've like you basically collapse at the end of it.
00:25And you think, how the hell am I going to do this again?
00:28And then you're doing it again.
00:30Day one, you're like, huh, this is going to be way easier.
00:32And then you're like, I'm here at the end, like, oh, my God,
00:36how am I going to do this again?
00:37And then I will.
00:38I will, because I love it and I love the people I work with.
00:40I mean, this is such a big task because game two, part two is a bigger game.
00:46How do you all decide on seven episodes for for what we're going to see for this part?
00:51It's a great question.
00:51You know, one of the nice things about HBO is that they don't really say, hey,
00:55fit into this box, do it this way.
00:57And so Neil and I look at the story of the second game,
01:00which is bigger than any one season can contain.
01:03And we just sort of thought, how do we want to lay this out
01:06going forward all the way to the end?
01:08And then where's an interesting point to end a season?
01:11And that's where it happened.
01:13So it could have been nine episodes.
01:14It could have been six.
01:15It happened to be seven because that's what that's where the story went to
01:18for this season.
01:20Next season, we're not actually sure again how many episodes it might be,
01:23because we have to kind of lay it out again.
01:25We probably will take more than one season to to finish this story.
01:29I mean, that's just exciting for us all as fans.
01:32We're like, we know that as you've called it, you know,
01:35one of the greatest stories ever told, the greatest games ever made is not over yet.
01:39Does that kind of I don't know, did that make this particular experience
01:43feel maybe less pressure or less less final like?
01:49Well, I the pressure that I feel is extraordinary all the time
01:54because I mean, look at all these people, you know, and tens of millions of people
01:57watch the show just in the U.S. alone and all around the world, so many.
02:00So we owe it to them to do the best we can do.
02:03That is that's the pressure I feel all the time.
02:05But you're absolutely right.
02:06There is I don't think the pressure is going to be ending
02:10because there is an amazing ending to be told.
02:13I think it's just going to emotionally.
02:16I don't I don't know how I'm going to do it.
02:18I just I literally don't know how I'm going to get there on that day
02:22and say cut for the last time I've given.
02:25I will have given a decade of my life to this.
02:28And, you know, you're young.
02:30It doesn't mean that much to you, but it means a lot to me.
02:32I'm getting up there, you know, giving away decades now.
02:34I don't have a lot of them to give away.
02:35And but that's how much I love this.
02:38And it is sort of the you know, this is the work of a lifetime here.
02:41And I'm so grateful that people are watching it.
02:44And I say one other thing that we all do love is that we did.
02:47You are finally taking Joel to therapy just as much as I guess
02:50you're technically taking us to therapy by doing so.
02:53What was it like getting a chance to get Pedro and Catherine O'Hara together?
02:56That was a great day for me.
02:58I mean, I so you know, I was kind of I'll tell you, I was honestly terrified
03:01because, you know, I'm I'm directing this episode.
03:04There's Catherine O'Hara.
03:05Here's Pedro and I know that we're just like we're two old pals.
03:09But Catherine O'Hara, we're both like, oh, the legend.
03:12So I was like, oh, I'm going to go over there and direct Catherine O'Hara.
03:16And then she just has this beautiful way of saying like,
03:19hey, come on over, help me.
03:21Let's figure this out together.
03:22And she's so warm and loving and welcoming and modest and humble.
03:26And and that scene is one of my favorites in the entire season.
03:31It is you're watching two great actors at the top of their game.
03:37And the amount it's almost like you're watching
03:39like this amazing fistfight without fists, without raising voices,
03:44words and looks and feelings.
03:46It is I'm so proud of that scene.
03:49They did amazing work.
03:50I don't ask you. This is my last question.
03:52What episode does your other favorite scene come in this season?
03:57I do have I have a scene that I don't know if I would call my favorite.
04:00It's the one that gets me like out of nowhere.
04:03It's sort of like, you know, some of these punches you see coming in.
04:05Some just get you out of nowhere.
04:06And there's a scene in the last episode sequence that
04:12just gets you out of nowhere.
04:13And man, when it hits, it hits hard.
