00:00The news overseas, the peace pact between Kiev and Moscow, which Trump has brokered
00:05is off to a slow start with a concession on both sides to halt attacks in the Baltic Sea.
00:10Eventually, Moscow will insist on keeping the land it seized from Ukraine and its list
00:15of non-negotiables, like no NATO membership for Ukraine ever, among others.
00:20VOA's Jeff Kuster narrates this report from Moscow.
00:25Moscow this week suffered the biggest Ukrainian drone attack since the start of the war, leaving
00:29at least three dead and 17 injured.
00:32Many Muscovites are trying to ignore the war, but many also hope that negotiations between
00:36the Kremlin and the new U.S. administration will soon bring a peace that Russians consider
00:41a victory.
00:42Officials say the goal is international recognition of the new borders that the Russian army has
00:46obtained by force.
00:48It is clear that there will be a bilateral settlement between us and Kiev.
00:53It should be a peace treaty that will legalize the new borders of Russia and the post-Soviet
00:59borders of Ukraine.
01:00Many in Moscow are already celebrating the new geopolitical scenario before the conflict
01:05is ended.
01:06This is a real victory.
01:08You can open champagne.
01:09Also, it cannot be lost.
01:11Russia must continue the offensive because no one canceled the ambitions of the United
01:15States.
01:16Yes, they are afraid of us, but it does not mean that they abandoned their idea of a world
01:20empire.
01:23After more than three years of war, independent media outlet MediaZona counts more than 95,000
01:28Russian casualties, but these losses are not stopping the Kremlin from carrying on
01:32with the war.
01:33In a meeting with wives and mothers of deceased soldiers, Russian President Vladimir Putin
01:38said there would be no concessions.
01:41We are not going to do that.
01:43We must choose for ourselves a version of the world that would suit us and that would
01:47ensure peace for our country for a long historical perspective.
01:53Critics of Putin can only speak from exile.
01:55As they see it, the Kremlin could make concessions, but giving up its territorial ambitions is
02:00out of the question.
02:04Compromises can be presented on some other issues related to how the Ukrainian security
02:08architecture will be formed after the war.
02:12Moscow wants to be a participant in the formation of this new Ukrainian security architecture
02:17and in fact to describe what can be done and what cannot be done.
02:22Ukrainian officials are looking forward to a meeting with U.S. officials following the
02:25talks between U.S. and Ukrainian negotiating teams in Saudi Arabia.
02:29So far, there is no such gathering in sight.
