00:00South Korean police barged and bullied their way into the South Korean president's residential
00:06compound after battling with his supporters at the gate, then negotiated for hours for
00:11his voluntary surrender.
00:13Embattled President Yoon Seok-yool finally capitulated to giving himself up for a jail
00:19time of no more than 48 hours in the interim.
00:23Then again, a constitutional court awaits him, where arguments on the merits of his
00:28impeachment case will be deliberated and eventually adjudicated on as we hear more
00:34from VOA's Bill Galliol.
00:38Supporters of impeached President Yoon Seok-yool scuffled with police outside his residence
00:43in Central Seoul, but they could do little to stop the overwhelming number of police
00:48who entered Yoon's compound early Wednesday.
00:52After several hours of negotiations with Yoon and his legal team, the deadlock broke without
00:56violence.
00:58Yoon left in a motorcade, maintaining a presidential image despite the circumstances.
01:04He is the first sitting South Korean president to be detained.
01:09Yoon, accused of insurrection, faces questions over his martial law decree last month.
01:14In a pre-recorded video message, Yoon was defiant.
01:21Such repeated illegal actions and coercive procedures based on invalid warrants are deeply
01:28deplorable.
01:33Authorities can detain Yoon for 48 hours before seeking a formal arrest warrant.
01:37The insurrection probe isn't the only trouble that Yoon faces.
01:41The country's constitutional court is also set to soon rule on his impeachment, a verdict
01:46that could remove him from office.
