Rob Gregson discusses Najee Harris's recent comments about the Pittsburgh Steelers after he leaving for the Los Angeles Chargers.
Transcript
00:00When Najee Harris was a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was never afraid to share his
00:04opinion.
00:05But since joining the Los Angeles Chargers, he's shed a lot of light on his opinion of
00:09the Steelers organization and it's generating a lot of blowback.
00:14Hey everyone, Rob Grexen of A-Z Sports Pittsburgh and today we're going to discuss the recent
00:22quotes from Najee Harris revolving around the Pittsburgh Steelers organization.
00:27See, Harris, when he was drafted out of Alabama, was supposed to be the next franchise back
00:33in Pittsburgh.
00:34And in fairness to him, he did everything you could possibly ask for.
00:38We're talking about a guy that never missed a start, much less a game, in his Steelers
00:42career.
00:43That rushed for over a thousand yards and five touchdowns in all four years.
00:50He was a pillar of stability, of reliability, of getting the tough yards, but yet the Steelers
00:56decided really last year when they declined his fifth year option that they wanted to
01:00move on.
01:01And because of that, maybe Harris is being a little petty.
01:05At first it started really just after he was signed from the Chargers where he was talking
01:11about how much better the facilities were and how much more in-depth that the process
01:17was in LA and how he wasn't utilized correctly in Pittsburgh.
01:21But then recently, he really had some comments that have even generated blowback from people
01:27in the media that hate the Steelers.
01:29We're talking about Bart Scott, who called out Najee Harris for being ungrateful when
01:34he said that the Steelers had no identity and no leadership when Ben Roethlisberger
01:40left.
01:41When he said that it was interesting, to say the least, regarding his time with the Steelers
01:45and Mike Tomlin.
01:47And for Harris, I get it.
01:48You're talking about a player who gave everything to the organization and they basically said,
01:53we don't want you anymore.
01:55We won't even pay you the $6.79 million that is your fifth year option.
02:00You can go leave in free agency.
02:02Thank you, but no thank you.
02:03We've had a good run.
02:04I understand being upset with that, but at what point in time do you just have grace
02:10for the Steelers, for the organization that drafted you?
02:13To come out and say, oh they didn't have any leadership, they didn't have any identity,
02:17they lacked a figurehead once Ben Roethlisberger was gone.
02:22All that may be true, but it comes off as petty.
02:25It doesn't look great for a player that's supposed to be happy about a new start.
02:29For a player who, quite frankly in my opinion, is going to thrive with the Los Angeles Chargers
02:34under Jim Harbaugh, who values the running back position and the trenches like nobody
02:39else.
02:40So, for Harris, it's going to be a very, very interesting game when they play the Steelers
02:45in 2025.
02:47We know that he wears his emotions on his sleeve and that he's unafraid to share his
02:51opinion and now he's got a giant target on his back from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
