Two-time Super Bowl champion James Farrior visited Newry this afternoon as the Pittsburgh Steelers hosted an American Football Youth Camp in Pairc Esler.

00:00So James, first and foremost, welcome to Newry. Can you talk a wee bit about what you're doing
00:04here today with the Pittsburgh Steelers?
00:07We're here today to run a flag football camp and show the kids in Ireland about the American
00:14game of football and it's going to be really fun and exciting and I'm looking forward to
00:18it.
00:19And how exciting is it in terms of growing the brand of the NFL and the Steelers internationally
00:24here in Ireland?
00:26Well it's great. We love the game of football and we want to spread it to as many communities
00:31as we can and being here in Ireland, we have a real strong connection with the Rooney family
00:38and this place Newry so it's going to be very important for us to build a brand and make
00:44things exciting and give something back for the community.
00:48And we're here of course on a Gaelic football field, we play rugby also in Ireland so there
00:51are some transferable skills and you're hoping to unearth a couple of guys to play American
00:55football?
00:56Yeah, I've been watching rugby since I've been here and it's very exciting and a lot
01:00of similarities to football so I think there's some skills that can transfer over and we're
01:06going to be happy to show those guys.
01:08And already in the NFL, the Packers punter Daniel Whelan is from Wicklow, there's Charlie
01:12Smith who's on the Saints practice squad, he's not far from here from Mayo Bridge so
01:16there's already a couple of guys forging through and hopefully there's a couple more guys coming
01:19through from Ireland.
01:20It's awesome, it's awesome to have players come from other countries and to show that
01:25you can make it if you work hard and do the things you're supposed to do so we're looking
01:29forward to having more international players come to play American football and it's going
01:34to be really exciting.
01:35Yeah, I understand you're having a watch party in Dublin for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the
01:38Steelers are already 3-0 on the season, how happy are you with how the start of the season
01:42is going?
01:43Very excited about the season, we're 3-0, we haven't been 3-0 in a long time so it's
01:47very good to see our team doing so well and we're looking forward to another strong season
01:52and hopefully we get into the playoffs and further beyond.
