00:00I've always been really outspoken about how I want to get the Armenian genocide recognized.
00:06April 24th is Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. Keep the promise to never forget.
00:25My great-grandmother was a survivor of the Armenian genocide
00:28and hearing the news from Biden put me into tears.
00:32The first thought that came into my head was, wow, we actually did it.
00:58It was not a consequence of World War I. The goal here was to exterminate all Armenians.
01:12Ultimately, 1.5 million Armenians were brutally killed, raped, and burned alive.
01:17And the 500,000 who managed to survive, barely,
01:20including my great-grandparents, fled to neighboring countries like Lebanon and Syria.
01:28This resolution is not the right response to these
01:58historic mass killings. And this passage would do great harm to our relations
02:05with a key ally in NATO and in the global war on terror.
02:17People don't know about the genocide and the Turks have never admitted it.
02:25And it's very important.
02:34The statement by the U.S. president is very unfortunate, unfair. We completely reject it,
02:39condemn it. It is not supported by historical facts.
02:55We never stopped fighting for recognition and now we got it.
03:03I just knew that in that moment, all of my ancestors were smiling down on me.
