00:00With your permission, may we be worthy to carry Brian in our hearts.
00:06We will never forget.
00:09Each day, when members enter the Capitol, this temple of democracy,
00:14we will remember his sacrifice and then others that day
00:19who fought so hard to protect the Capitol and the Congress.
00:30Our promise to Brian's family is that we will never forget his sacrifice.
00:44We must be vigilant as what President Lincoln referred to as the harsh artillery of time.
00:52We will never forget.
00:54We gather today united in grief, gratitude, and solemn appreciation
00:59for the service and sacrifice of Officer Brian Sicknick.
01:04We respect his service, certainly as a member of the Capitol Police Force,
01:08but also as a patriot to his country in other arenas.
01:13In 1997, he joined the New Jersey Air National Guard,
01:17under which he was deployed twice to defend our national security.
01:22And in 2008, he continued that commitment when he joined the United States Capitol Police.
01:30We saw last night how Brian's patriotic service commanded the respect
01:35with a visit by the President of the United States and the First Lady,
01:41who came to pay respects to Brian.
01:44It is fitting this day that we have been graced by a performance of America the Beautiful,
01:48as you can see by the program, by the Air Force Band Singing Sergeants.
01:54Appropriate because, again, Brian was a member of the Air Force National Guard.
02:00And they sang,
02:01O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife,
02:06Who more than self their country love,
02:09And mercy more than love.
02:11Through the heroism of Officer Sicknick and all who defend our great country,
02:15God has truly shed his grace on us, on America,
02:20from sea to brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.
02:25May it be a comfort to offer Sicknick's family
02:29that so many mourn with them and pray for them during this sad time.
02:34May it be a blessing for us to have many of us who have known Brian Sicknick,
02:41those of us who now admire him,
02:44and that we say to his friends and family,
02:47we may it be a comfort to you that so many mourn your loss.
02:51May he rest in peace.
