Ecotourism in Namibia

This is how Namibia uses ecotourism to preserve its unique fauna (and how it inspires other countries to do the same).

00:30A conservancy is an area where communities voluntarily work together to manage their

00:41wildlife.

00:42And what's unique about them is that they're embraced by legislation, by law, they're recognized

00:48by all of government once they're formed.

00:52It empowers the people that are actually living with the wildlife to become the stewards of

00:57the wildlife and the benefactors.

01:27The economic benefits are very meaningful for communities here.

01:38The fact that communities are getting income back in large sums of money from joint venture,

01:44lodge agreements, the hunting contracts that are being used to not only generate benefits

01:51and cash back to the conservancy, but the meat that's harvested goes back to the communities

01:56and is highly valued at the household level.
