00:00The Amazon is a fire-resistant area.
00:04The Amazon is a fire-resistant area.
00:09Just like being a unique forest, like most of you, it doesn't catch fire.
00:16So this story that the Amazon is a fire-resistant area is a lie.
00:24There's nothing red. The forest doesn't catch fire.
00:28It's an evil campaign, all the time, against Brazil because it has to do with the economy.
00:43And then it comes to end everything, right?
00:46It's a matter of seconds.
00:58So far, the international outcry has not been as loud as it was this previous year.
01:24In the wake of the fires last year, a lot of political leaders started to move away or stall trade deals that Brazil was negotiating.
01:32It's very critical that all of these governments that are key trading partners with Brazil
01:38denounced Brazil's environmental record and the actions that it's taking to endanger the climate and endanger the Amazon rainforest.
01:46The difference between this year and last year is that the fires started earlier on this year.
01:53And there is more cleared forest on the ground that is awaiting to be burned.
01:59Bolsonaro is lying about what is happening in the Amazon in respect to deforestation and the fires.
02:22The fires that you are seeing in Brazil are burned illegally in violation of Brazilian law.
02:29In fact, there is a 120-day moratoria ban on new burnings in the Amazon.
02:36But as we can see from both the satellite data and images and eyewitness accounts from flyovers and the smoke-filling Brazil cities, that this is not being respected.
02:47The U.S. market has a key role to play in the fate of the Amazon as it is the largest import market for timber from the Amazon,
02:55which is more often than not logged illegally in violation of both Brazil and U.S. laws.
03:02The cost of inaction for not protecting the Amazon is incredibly high.
03:07When you take into account the critical importance of the Amazon to maintain a safe climate for the near future,
03:15it is incredibly important that we demand that governments outside of Brazil and corporations who do business in Brazil and profit off of forest destruction hold this government accountable.
