00:00It's a record-scratch moment when you order a booze-free drink.
00:06At Listen Bar, we actually call cocktails, so they're alcohol-free cocktails,
00:10and they're developed by top mixologists in the country.
00:15Ultimately, they're very much built like a traditional cocktail,
00:18and many of them are inspired by the construction of a traditional cocktail.
00:22The idea behind Listen Bar is that you don't actually need alcohol in order to have a good time.
00:33They don't want to launch a conversation around pregnancy or sobriety,
00:38or to make other people uncomfortable during a business meeting.
00:41And that, to me, is bewildering. That is the drinking culture that we currently exist in.
00:53It's about having more options and also feeling empowered in those choices,
00:57because it's not just what drinks are on the menu,
01:00but it's also how will the people around you respond when you order those drinks?
01:04And how will the bartender respond?
01:06And do you feel like you're just kind of catered to just as like an afterthought,
01:12or do you feel like your experience is considered really crucial to the bar atmosphere?
01:17Those kinds of questions are what makes Listen Bar different from simple bars that have alcohol-free options.
01:30What's funny about Listen Bar is that, in a way, it started on a dare.
01:34I ended up having my own first Dry January before I knew that Dry January was a thing,
01:40and that was five years ago.
01:43I started researching the experience of going out without drinking,
01:47and I started noticing all the places where things were awesome and surprising things about myself,
01:54and then all the places where the experience could be improved,
01:57and ideas around what could enhance that,
02:00and what are some needs that are not being paid attention to,
02:03whether it's nutritional needs, whether it's social, environment needs, what the spaces look like.
02:09All of that is really what I wanted to bring into Listen Bar.
02:21We're talking about how self-care is the new rock and roll,
02:25because right now what it feels like to go against the grain and to do something that really fits who you are,
02:31and that's rock and roll.
02:33We want Listen Bar to be a place that is opening the path for more alcohol-free nightlife to exist beyond us all over the country.
02:41So for anyone who is anywhere in the world saying,
02:45this is a good idea, raise your hand,
02:48because every person contributing is a hand raised towards booze-free nightlife,
02:53saying this deserves to exist, and we want it to be awesome.
