Steve Hamilton asks town, borough and county councillors 'what can be done in the short to medium term' for Downing Street and Farnham traders struggling with the impact of roadworks in the town centre.
Transcript
00:00I think Farnham, within the next three years, let's hope two years, but three years, is going to be a lovely town to be.
00:09And who knows, next time the Surrey Times do their survey, we might be able to look at it.
00:14We will talk about communication, we will do this at the Yard.
00:18For us small businesses, saying in small term, paying for long term payment, saying this often earlier that in three years' time Farnham will be lovely,
00:27and a lot of businesses won't be here in three years' time if it continues as it is.
00:31There are issues on Downing Street, South Street, Union Street, Firgrove Hill and West Street, not just Downing Street.
00:37So what is going to be done in the short and medium term, and by short term I mean the next couple of months, medium term just beyond that,
00:44to help alleviate the issues and more importantly bring people back into town.
00:50There is a lot of negativity on social media, I think we need to alleviate that because it is a lot better than I think the perception of it is,
00:59but we need to work collectively to bring people back into town.
01:04And that includes waverly deciding when and if they should increase car parking charges,
01:10because that's another nail in the coffin for small businesses if that continues.
