00:01When Roxy was surrendered to the shelter by her previous family,

00:05they were given a form.

00:06Why are you surrendering this pet?

00:08Hi, mama.

00:09Her family's response was,

00:11house owner don't want them,

00:13will be kicked out,

00:14and can't find anyone for a new home for them.

00:18I'm Divya, and this is Roxy's story for GeoBeats.

00:21I'm the founder of Furry Tale Endings,

00:23a non-profit rescue dedicated to saving animals from high-risk situations.

00:28When I put my hand through the kennel to just sort of say hi to pet her,

00:32she flinched.

00:33And in that moment, I realized that this poor girl

00:36had been through some serious trauma and some serious abuse.

00:39Come on, guys, come here!

00:40Because Roxy was so fearful and would not let volunteers even approach her,

00:45she was placed on the euthanasia list

00:47and had about a week left to live before the shelter was to put her down.

00:50We unfortunately had to leave without her.

00:52While I worked on, you know, figuring out a plan for her,

00:55days later when we finally showed up with a plan,

00:57she was still there, just as scared as she was before.

00:59Let's get you out, mama!

01:00This is a very beautiful dog.

01:02To my surprise, nobody else stepped up for her.

01:18We took her into the play yard at the shelter,

01:20and it was just like something finally clicked in that moment.

01:23At first, she was hiding behind the bench in the yard,

01:26but I laid down just to sort of like give her some space

01:28to just take in some fresh air to just breathe

01:31because the shelter can be so noisy.

01:33And when I laid down, she slowly started creeping up to me

01:36and then just laid her head on my chest.

01:38And she just sighed.

01:39It was like this deep, exhausted sigh, like for the first time

01:43in so long she could finally breathe.

01:51My brother was with me that day, also volunteering.

01:53We got her out of the shelter.

01:56Hi, mama!

01:58Her face just sort of like transformed.

02:00It's kind of hard to say.

02:01It was like you can finally see this big smile start to form.

02:04And it's like, oh my God, this is what this dog

02:06is really supposed to be like.

02:10We loaded her up into our transporter's car.

02:12They took her to the foster home.

02:13And that same night, her foster sent me videos of her

02:16running around the backyard with her two dogs.

02:18And it was like, wow, what a transformation,

02:20a huge 180 from how she was at the shelter.

02:24Good job, good job!

02:26The first foster home was just for a few days.

02:28And then we shifted her to our long-term foster home.

02:31And they had the privilege of fostering her for about a month

02:34before we found an amazing forever family that wanted to adopt her.

02:38Her family flew down from Colorado to California.

02:42And then because we didn't want to risk anything happening on an airplane,

02:45they drove back to Colorado in a rental car.

02:48It took them about, I would say, maybe one to two days to drive back.

02:51She now lives in Colorado with her forever family.

02:54She gets to hike the mountains.

02:56She plays in the snow.

02:57She's just soaking up all the love and attention that she always deserved.
