With pet thefts on the rise we ask Glaswegians if tougher sentences should be given as a deterrent.

00:00For so many people, and a couple of my friends in particular, pets are their family, that's their baby
00:06and the devastation that they incur when something happens is horrendous.
00:10I think if you're causing that amount of harm it has to be looked at seriously.
00:14You've got to ask a question as to why they're doing it.
00:17To me, why would you go and steal a dog? There's a reason it's been there, I don't know what the reason is.
00:22There should be punishment, without a doubt, because it costs too much money now to have a dog.
00:28It costs a lot to keep a pet, between insurance and tagging and all the things that you want to keep them safe.
00:35And I've heard of people lifting dogs and taking them away in cars, I have heard of it.
00:41Do you have any pets yourself?
00:43Not now, but up until a few years ago we always had a dog.
00:47I just don't understand why you would steal pets in the first place.
00:50There's obviously a reason they're being stolen, so I think you need to deal with the reason instead of the why.
00:57Get to the reason why it's being done.
