00:00Nagpur riots and how you had in fact one rumor leading to this right on camera now
00:07we have details of
00:10Faheem Khan the mastermind of in fact the violence making a comment about how in fact
00:17The holy cloth of the Aurangazeb tomb was burnt
00:21He spread that rumor and he spread it with a video that was shared widely
00:25With members of his community who then gather in large numbers on the streets of
00:30Nagpur that was obviously a completely fake charge that Faheem Khan had made that's the holy cloth in the tomb was burnt
00:37It was untrue. It was fake
00:39He spread it with the clear intention of triggering this kind of a riot and the cops have confirmed that that it was this
00:47Rumor on in fact to the tomb chowder that led to the riots breaking out and the man you see on your screens there
00:54He's the one who spread that rumor by spreading by in fact making a video
01:00Claiming that the holy cloth has been burnt and spreading it across Nagpur
01:24So
01:39This is the video you can see Faheem Khan there standing outside the police station with a mob already
01:46This was on Monday afternoon where he made the claim that the holy cloth in the Aurangazeb tomb has been burnt
01:54By right-wing groups who are protesting in Nagpur and it is this comment by him, which was completely baseless untrue
02:02He just made it up and did it with the clear intention of spreading riots
02:06It was this comment that sparked the anger that led to the riots breaking out in Nagpur this man
02:13Essentially spread this rumor with an intention of creating unrest in Nagpur
02:24Its ok to protest against someone because you have constitutional right
02:26But burning the holy cloth of Muslims, what kind of a thing is this?
02:32The holy cloth in Nagpur was burnt and some of our men went and protested against it and then the riots started
02:38And the police put the blame on only one side
02:44While they were peacefully sitting there and just asking the people who burnt the holy cloth to be arrested and brought back
02:51Arrest them and bring them here.
03:21Arrest them and bring them here.
03:51Arrest them and bring them here.
04:21Arrest them and bring them here.
04:51Arrest them and bring them here.
05:21Arrest them and bring them here.
05:52Arrest them and bring them here.
05:54Why did this man make this comment saying that you know the holy cloth of the tomb has
06:00been burnt.
06:01He well knew the repercussions he knew what would happen and despite that made that comment
06:04I want to play out again exactly what Faheem Khan had said this is a video from Monday
06:10hours before the riot broke out.
06:12Here's what he said that mobilized a mob that got more people gathered outside a police
06:17station who then went on a rampage.
06:47So, that is the comment from in fact Monday afternoon at about 1 to 4 is when Faheem Khan
06:56along with a big group had gathered outside the police station by 7 o'clock this had now
07:01escalated and became a full-blown riot all because of this one man and the comment that
07:07he's made.
07:08Sumi just give us some details about Faheem Khan.
07:11He reportedly also contested the elections last year.
07:14He belongs to a group called the Minorities Democratic Party.
07:18Is it linked to any other political party?
07:20What really is his ideology?
07:22What really has been any of the controversies that he's been embroiled in previously?
07:27Yes, absolutely.
07:30We're digging more on that the political background of this particular guy called Faheem Rahim
07:37Khan but he was one of the 24 candidates who had contested the parliamentary elections
07:42against Nitin Gadkari from Nagpur and what we are also picking up from our local sources
07:46is that he enjoys a great rapport in all of these sensitive areas and which is why he
07:50was successful in mobilizing a crowd of 50 to 60 people between 1 to 4 on a Monday which
07:56again thereafter went on to take shape of violence in Nagpur and all these sensitive
08:02routes and 11 such areas got affected but this particular guy has a very strong political
08:06background is what we are picking up but again his association with any other political party
08:10is something to be looked at and police I'm sure that police the Maharashtra police is
08:15certainly very meticulously looking into this particular factor as well as to what was the
08:19motive behind inciting such a high voltage intense violence in Nagpur specifically at
08:26such an area and when the situation is already volatile.
08:30Now this is going to be the key point of the investigation and this will certainly take
08:35a different route but this particular guy's background is what we are looking into and
08:39we are trying to dig more on that.
08:42He is currently in custody and will remain in custody for the next two days perhaps more
08:47than that once of course the police push for further custody but he has now been identified
08:52as the mastermind behind the riots.
08:55It also explains a lot to me as to why you know we saw so many targeted attacks at the
08:59police officials because Fahim Khan the mastermind the orchestrator of this violence was standing
09:04outside a police station and making these comments talking about how police did nothing.
09:15Yes absolutely the condescending attitude of this particular guy Fahim Rahim Khan and
09:19in fact he doesn't seem to be budging from his particular perception that police couldn't
09:24do anything when the religious outfits were burning the sacred cloth and which is why
09:29he seems to be triggered by that very action and he justifies that very act that mobilizing
09:35the people from the Muslim community is justified because it had to be done and that is what
09:40his attitude while speaking in the video which we are airing right now on India Today and
09:47in fact the way all the rioters had no sense of what they were doing they were attacking
09:51women officials who were simply doing their jobs they were completely unarmed and a few
09:55of them tried to strip the women as well as you know there was a lot of manhandling that
09:59also took place a few of the women officials also received injuries who are now undergoing
10:03treatment but are not saying anything about it but these are the shocking revelations
10:09that are now you know taking center stage of the investigation and this particular detail
10:14of how the women officials were manhandled and you know misbehaved by all of the rioters
10:19is now certainly one of the key angles where the Maharashtra police is going to certainly
10:24look into and stern action will be taken against though just to teach them a lesson
10:28to not attack the women officials as well as officials in particular who are simply
10:33doing their job of containing the law and order situation where a violence has erupted
10:39all right Sumi thanks very much for joining us with all of those details of spotlight
10:43right now on Fahim Khan he has been arrested he is in Nagpur police custody but here's
10:48why he is being deemed as the masterminder of the Nagpur riots listen in to what he said
10:53on Monday spread a rumor fake news that in fact triggered this right
