00:00Congressman, I guess both of you could answer this.
00:05Federal government's in cut mode, it's in reduced funding mode.
00:09How are you going to be able to continue with your initiatives in the light of that uncertainty?
00:14I think for me, I've said all along, I can't fix what they're doing to us.
00:20I don't have the resources.
00:21I cannot make up for $93 billion that we get from the federal government every year.
00:26It is not possible.
00:27I wanted to sound the alarm day one, like these cuts will have a ... We will be the
00:33collateral damage, the roadkill in the way of these policies because there's not a lot
00:39we can do about it.
00:40I'm not throwing in the towel, I'm just saying realistically, how do I make up that money?
00:46It is not possible.
00:48We stand up, we fight, we challenge, we go to court.
00:51When they withhold money, we see you in court.
00:53Sometimes it's successful, sometimes it's not.
00:55That is our strategy right now, but also as I've said, the world can change in a better
01:00direction in 2026, which is not that far off.
01:05We put Paul Tonko in the majority, all of a sudden there's checks and balance and the
01:11slide stops.
01:12That's what I'm focused on beyond just trying to figure out the damage control to protect
01:17our state.
01:18In terms of a response, Jimmy, I think that housing as a crisis doesn't know boundaries.
01:24There are Republican-led communities that are suffering just as Democratic-led communities
01:28are with the housing initiatives and the need to invest in housing.
01:32I would hope that the successes out there, like the one we're celebrating today, will
01:38be storytelling for all of us, that you build the people's response here and the pressure
01:44on all of us to move forward.
01:46Look, the president campaigned on reducing costs and all he's doing is increasing costs.
01:53A reduced cap cannot be promised as broken.
01:56We need to remind the administration of this.
01:58When you're going to add to the price of lumber and steel, you're going to definitely put
02:03a dent into the opportunities, how far you can stretch that dollar.
02:08You fight so hard for tax credit, you fight so hard for investments to respond to that
02:13$4 million shortfall.
02:15We shouldn't have a man-made, president-made initiative here that is going to cause yet
02:22another layer of crisis.
02:24This is going to be impacting the consumers and we are going to use that as a pitch at
02:30the table, at the budget table, certainly at the appropriate committee table.
02:34I'm on the budget committee in the House.
02:36We're going to raise these issues and talk about these successes and encourage our counterparts
02:40to do the same and challenge them.
02:42If they don't want to talk about it, challenge them because they're realizing some of these
02:45tax credits across the country.
