00:00It was Jay Wright, Kyle Neptune's time as Nova's head coach has come to a close.
00:05Neptune fired at the conclusion of Villanova's appearance in the Big East Tournament, falling
00:10in their second game to UConn.
00:13No real surprises DRS when you're a Villanova team and a program that has failed to go dancing
00:18for three consecutive seasons, that Neptune gets the axe.
00:21And also tough shoes to fill overall, I mean you're filling in for Jay Wright, multiple
00:25time national champion at a historic program like Villanova, when he steps away you're
00:29hoping for that extension, which means fill some of Jay Wright's guys in there, get your
00:33foot in the door, maybe struggle in year number one, maybe make the tournament, maybe you
00:36don't, but everything after that in the landscape of college basketball is on you.
00:41Because this is no longer, let me get four recruiting classes in here to make sure that
00:46I understand that everybody's on the same page.
00:49Everybody has the transfer portal, you can be horrible one season, like the Missouri
00:52Tigers in the SEC, bring in some transfers, new coach, change the game here, and bang,
00:56there you go, right back in it to the tournament you go.
00:58But for Villanova, to go 17-17, 18-16, and 19-14 without making it into a conference
01:04tournament, excuse me, making it into the March Madness Dance, that's unacceptable.
01:07But also understand this too, Ben, the longer you get away with saying, well maybe you can
01:11turn the corner, you're three years down the road, four years, now kids are going like,
01:14I don't even remember when Villanova was good, why would I go to that program, as opposed
01:17to Jay Wright going in your living room, you want to make the NBA, you want to be a great
01:20guard, you want to win here and go to a great school, you come here, like you know what,
01:23I can buy into that.
01:24Buying into Villanova right now, tough sale.
