Transcript
00:00the teams and the families will always be fantastic good answer in malaysia but you
00:04can see clearly teams are looking at each other like are you the dumbest for life
00:09we want to ask you as well how did you land such a cool job being the host of family feud
00:14yeah we're jealous man i know what was the process did you audition audition when i first got the
00:19call i got so excited because you must understand like one of the few things i have not been able
00:23to do in my career is host a game show and i've always wanted to host a game show personally my
00:28favorite would have been smarter than a fifth grader oh that's fun but that was my that's my
00:32choice in terms of like what smarter than a fifth grader family feud and money drop i think for a
00:38comedian those three game shows i think really it suits you like you know uh and so i was like oh
00:44man if only i could host one of these game shows and then i got the call to say hey douglas we're
00:48doing family feud malaysia would you like to to send an audition i was like hey tell me what i
00:52need to do man so they sent me an email it was a lot of instructions the first thing was a video
00:56audition where you just record yourself at home you know and they had a script for you and you do
01:00the the lines and you send it in dude i was so gung-ho for this i set up a green screen i put
01:05the family feud thing in the background i did the whole thing i would complete with like voices of
01:10the family on the left and the family on the right and i wore a suit and everything and i sent that
01:15in and i think that got their attention and they were like okay fine you're quite serious come in
01:19and do a do a live audition and then and then i got the job after that as one of the hosts was
01:25it exciting or stressful to be the malaysian steve harvey did you have did you feel as though
01:30you had certain expectations expectations to meet or you know shoes to fill i think of course when
01:37you have a host that is so synonymous with that show and you take steve harvey away from the show
01:44steve harvey is a big name i mean you don't get to host miss universe make mistakes on air and
01:50still come back and host miss universe so that's how big steve harvey is right because he's so
01:54affable he's so lovable he's he comes across as very genuine he's got other shows i've watched
01:59where he's giving out advice and people just take you know i just want to like listen to him and
02:02talk to him so however i think uh the production here was very kind in the sense that they they
02:08made it clear to me they said douglas we don't copy we're not expecting you to copy steve steve
02:13harvey come in as douglas lim but you know the standard that steve harvey brought to the show
02:18maybe you can you can try and match that dedication and uh that that the warmth that he
02:25brings into into the show and so i obviously i watched a lot and because steve is of a certain
02:31age he's got a lot of anecdotes so whatever answer you give him he's got a story about
02:35what happened to him before what i try to do is i'm i'm not that experienced i don't have that
02:40many stories so i will try and whatever you say your answer i will try and ask you for more and
02:47i was like why would you give me this answer so it's more about your stories as opposed to my
02:51stories at the end of the day i think my job as the host there is to number one of course conduct
02:56the show but number two react to the answers the shocking ones the weird ones as a proxy for the
03:03audience right yeah so the audience sees me react that way they're like correct what a weird thing
03:08to say yeah so as a proxy for the audience and then try and maybe craft a joke or a quick response
03:13a witty response based on that what was your favorite part or what is your favorite part of
03:18the show whenever you're on set what do you look most forward to i think one of the funnest parts
03:23of family feud malaysia was that when you watch family feud the international version or even the
03:29south african version you very rarely see teams disagree with each other or maybe they don't show
03:35you that the teams are always really supportive of each other they're like yeah good answer even
03:39though you're at home going like that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard
03:44but the teams and the families will always be fantastic good answer
03:47in malaysia but you can see clearly teams are looking at each other like
03:50are you the dumbest for life how are we related
03:57and they're like staring daggers at each other so that's the real family feud exactly
04:02internal conflict i love it us malaysians we don't give chance to each other
04:06you see him looking around like who picked this guy to be my team
04:14why would my family marry such a guy
