00:00If you're wondering what it looks like when Elon Musk gets a taste of his own medicine,
00:04Tesla just sent a letter to the US trade representative that President Donald Trump's trade war could
00:08make it a target for retaliatory tariffs against the US.
00:11Quote, as a US manufacturer and exporter, Tesla encourages USTR to consider the downstream
00:17impacts of certain proposed actions taken to address unfair trade practices.
00:21In other words, the trade war that Donald Trump launched is now set to hurt Elon Musk's
00:26own company.
00:27If you're looking for some poetic justice, this is it.
00:31And to be clear, this is why these tariffs are so damaging, because they lead to reciprocal
00:36tariffs and trade wars benefit no one.
00:39Like it or not, we live in a global economy.
00:41We rely on other countries, like for example China and Canada and Mexico, for auto parts
00:47among a raft of other goods.
00:49So when you haphazardly impose tariffs on those countries, which impact sales, countries
00:54respond accordingly, which means that prices rise for everyone.
00:57And at the end of the day, the winner is literally no one.
01:01And yet will that move Trump?
01:03Absolutely not, as he proves right here.
01:07Why should we subsidize another country for 200 billion?
01:10Of course it's 200 billion dollars a year.
01:12And again, we don't need their lumber.
01:14We don't need their energy.
01:15We have more than they do.
01:17We don't need anything.
01:18We don't need the cars.
01:19I'd much rather make the cars here.
01:22And there's not a thing that we need.
01:24Now there'll be a little disruption, but it won't be very long.
01:29But they need us.
01:30We really don't need them.
01:31And we have to do this.
01:32I'm sorry.
01:33We have to do this.
01:34Yes.
01:35And why won't he change his stance?
01:36Well, that's easy.
01:37Because he's also stated his position.
01:39And Trump views any reversal as a capitulation.
01:41And his ego couldn't possibly handle that.
01:44And so instead, we're forced to barrel ahead as our economy crashes and the stock market
01:48tanks, all because Trump is too fucking sensitive to alter his strategy because his fragile
01:53sense of masculinity can't handle it.
01:56And yet, we're told that women are too emotional to be president.
01:59Right.
02:00And let's be clear.
02:01Tesla wouldn't be the first company to be subjected to retaliatory tariffs.
02:05According to reporting from over a month ago, Canada would specifically target their tariffs
02:09to impact red states.
02:11According to the New York Times, the Canadian officials said their choice of goods was meant
02:14to be precisely targeted and aimed at political impact.
02:17They specifically want to focus on goods made in Republican or swing states where the
02:21pain of tariffs, like pressure on jobs and the bottom lines of local businesses, would
02:25affect Trump allies.
02:27Canada's government hopes that those allies, including governors or members of Congress,
02:31would then pick up the phone and call Mr. Trump intervening in favor of de-escalation.
02:35Melanie Jolly, Canada's foreign minister, met with a slew of Republicans to make her
02:39country's case, including Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Sen. Jim Reich of Idaho,
02:44and the Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota.
02:46Ms. Jolly said that she hoped her outreach to senior Republicans would persuade them
02:50to intervene to avert or limit a trade war and its negative impact on consumers and jobs
02:55on both sides of the border.
02:56Quote, my job here is to be able to talk about facts and that comes before any threat of
03:00counter tariffs from our side.
03:02Because then the senators might say, well why are we doing this?
03:04Why are we imposing tariffs?
03:05It's affecting my own constituency.
03:08First of all, pretty funny to think that these Republican officials would ever put their
03:12own loyalty to their own constituents above their loyalty to the God King, Donald Trump.
03:17But in fact, Canada immediately began doing what it promised.
03:20British Columbia announced that it would no longer buy American liquor from red states
03:23in response to the tariffs.
03:25As a first step in response to the tariffs, the premier has announced immediate measures,
03:28including, British Columbia's premier has directed the B.C. liquor distribution branch
03:32to immediately stop buying American liquor from red states and to remove the top-selling
03:35red state brands from the shelves of public liquor stores, and directed the B.C. government
03:40and crown corporations to buy Canadian goods and services first.
03:43And this is what it looks like inside of Canadian grocery stores as employees clear the shelves
03:47of American liquor.
03:49That right there is bullet bourbon.
03:50It comes from Kentucky, meaning that red state's economy is going to suffer as the direct result
03:55of Donald Trump's policies.
03:57Here's even Fox News reporting on how Trump's tariffs on our neighbors are raising prices
04:01on pickup trucks.
04:03Could be ground zero for the impact on the tariffs, Maria.
04:06This Dodge Ram truck, $80,000, instantly became $100,000.
04:14Now I understand that I might be working off of stereotypes here, but I think a number
04:18of Trump supporters might have just a particular interest in the rising cost of pickup trucks.
04:24Just a wild guess.
04:25And yet I have to repeat for the umpteenth time, none of this should come as a surprise
04:29to anyone.
04:31Donald Trump has been adamant about the fact that his policies, far from lowering costs
04:35on day one, as promised, will actually cause pain.
04:39His words, not mine.
04:41We may have short term, some little pain and people understand that, but long term, the
04:47United States has been ripped off by virtually every country in the world.
04:51We have deficits with almost every country, not every country, but almost, and we're going
04:56to change it.
04:57It's been unfair.
04:58That's why we owe $36 trillion.
05:01We have deficits with everybody.
05:03We help everybody.
05:04We've been helping everybody for years, and to be honest, I don't think they appreciate
05:08it.
05:09So we're going to change that.
05:10We're going to change it fast.
05:11We're going to make America great again.
05:13We have to focus on our country.
05:15We have tremendous potential if properly used, and we have to focus on our country.
05:21Tremendous deficits with China, tremendous deficits with the European Union, tremendous
05:27deficits with Mexico and Canada.
05:30And of course, the little foot soldiers on the right are dutifully falling in line, now
05:35propping up this talking point about enduring pain as if it's our patriotic duty to do so.
05:40And Trump's tariffs make an America great again.
05:43It's a great strategy is somebody's finally doing something out of the White House.
05:49President Trump, that is, that says you have to take an action in another country.
05:53Yeah.
05:54Uh, no pain, no gain.
05:56That's what we used to tell our football players.
05:58There's going to be some pain with tariffs, but tariffs got us back as the strongest economy
06:03in the world.
06:04When President Trump was in the first time, he knows what he's doing.
06:07Democrats get out of the way.
06:08Shut up.
06:09You have no answers.
06:10You didn't do anything right in the last four years with Joe Biden.
06:13We have a game plan.
06:14Trump has a game plan along with Howard Ludnick and the other people that that are pushing
06:19the tariffs.
06:20We can turn this thing around.
06:22But folks, let me tell you, this is our last chance.
06:25If we can't get it done now with tariffs and with putting and pulling regulations and getting
06:29people back to work and cutting our debt and cutting the amount of spending, we're
06:34not going to have the country that we've had before.
06:36So people need to just listen, learn from this, understand it's short term pain.
06:42We're going to get this turned around.
06:43President Trump knows exactly what he's doing and he has a game plan, something Democrats
06:48didn't know anything about.
06:49So I suppose my message now is quite simple.
06:52If the goal out of the Trump administration is that it's somehow our patriotic duty to
06:55endure pain and hardship, then Elon Musk should be first in line to volunteer to endure it.
07:01The fact that he clearly won't goes to show that while Elon and Trump are perfectly content
07:05to mandate that the rest of us do, is a testament to the fact that their mantra here is pain
07:10for thee, but not for me.

07:29The subscribe button will be right here on the screen.
07:31But second, the reality is that we're now in a political environment where this administration
07:35can lean on any of the social media platforms to suppress certain voices if they don't like
07:39critical coverage.
07:41That means my longevity here is in the hands of a few tech billionaires who are already
07:45making it clear that they're willing to cater to this White House.
07:48To that end, signing up for my newsletter is a great way for me to be able to reach
07:51you directly if that ever becomes necessary.
07:54I'll put the link on the screen as well, so please sign up.
07:56It's completely free, but there's also an option to do a paid subscription if you'd

08:01I really appreciate it.
