00:00An international school with several campuses in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor has entered an
00:07appearance to defend a lawsuit brought by a parent who alleges that one of its campuses
00:12was operating illegally. The parent, Nur Hashiba Chae Lee alias Chae Ismail, wants the Sessions
00:19Court to decredit the school's Petaling Jaya campus was operating illegally and that the
00:24directors had knowingly permitted, facilitated, and benefited from the alleged illegal operation.
00:31She wants a refund of the RM65,000 she paid comprising RM60,000 in tuition fees and RM5,000
00:38in security deposit along with compensation for costs incurred to transfer her child to
00:44another school. The plaintiff first enrolled her autistic son at the school's Subang Jaya campus
00:49in 2021 in light of its suitability for children with special needs but later transferred him to
00:55the PJ campus in April 2024 purportedly on the advice of the school's representatives.
01:01However, she began to have concerns about the legitimacy of the school's PJ campus
01:06after observing that it was located in an industrial area with heavy vehicles constantly
01:11passing by and lacked proper signage. Nur Hashiba claimed that both the education ministry and the
01:16Petaling Jaya City Council confirmed the PJ campus was unregistered and operating illegally
01:22on industrial land without the necessary permissions. She alleged that upon confronting
01:28the school and requesting to withdraw her child, they denied that he was ever enrolled there and
01:32refused to provide a full refund of the school fees and deposit. Natasha Bust, FMT.
