00:00In one of the last interviews with former President Rodrigo Duterte before he was arrested, he defended what he did.
00:09He had no excuse and no apology because he did what he should have done before.
00:15Marisol Abdurrahman is back.
00:17How are you President Duterte?
00:23With God's mercy, I am okay.
00:27What's your plan? Will you appear if you are summoned, sir?
00:31I would say that not really appear or non-appearance, but I will deal with the problem directly, frontally, as a lawyer.
00:45I will use my lawyer.
00:47Suffice to say that you have been prepared for this, Mr. President?
00:53For the longest time, as far as I can remember, I was there a few years early on, so to be around, put it lightly, the first five years, first term, second term, I was already there.
01:11Malacanang said that they are preparing for any eventualities. Is the government prepared?
01:19It's just a simple matter of tendering the warrant. All I have to do is just to abide by the rules.
01:30It's all free. So if there is an arrest order and you are served the warrant of arrest, then you can arrest me and then go to the court and explain what is this all about.
01:46Let's not delay this. We go to trial and let's find out what you're asserting is true.
01:57Aside from this, sir, DOJ also filed an inciting to sedition. What's your take on this?
02:07Inciting to sedition? I don't know about that. I know that there's a plan to sue me, but it's specific to... I just found out today.
02:25You know, in the ICC, it's been a long time. Whatever course it might turn to, I'm ready for it.
02:38Because I went to work as an appointed elected official of the Republic. I do not offer... no excuses to give. I offer no apology.
03:04I did what I had to do. Whether or not it would run me down or push me up, it's too early for history to make the accurate count.
03:32Is it true that are you really going to join in their defense team?
03:40Yes.
03:41But you won't be the defense, the lead counsel anymore, sir?
03:47Well, I will deal with the multiple problems as they come along. The basic issues remain the same.
04:00Do you think he will continue?
04:03He can. This is a political issue in the Philippines. We will respond later.
04:08What did you say to him, sir, if there's any?
04:11If I'm not in the political scene, either I'm removed or I die, or whatever, for any reason, I told him, I asked the Philippines to help me when the time comes.
04:30And the president ran. I did not stop him, ma'am. Just for now. If you're the president, just follow my style and you're okay.
04:43Don't be afraid to go to jail.
04:48Is there any hope that you will reconcile with the Marcoses?
04:55Actually, ma'am, we don't have an ally. So it would even surprise Marcos if I go to him pleading for an amicable settlement.
05:09And he will just simply say, what are you talking about? What for?
05:16We never quarreled. And for the few meetings that we have had in the past, we have no verbal tussle at all, no arguments, no nothing.
05:32You didn't ask me anything. I didn't give you anything.
05:40So it's kind of silly to really speculate that there is such a thing about the president.
05:50So how are you considering President Marcos now, sir?
05:53I consider him the president until now because he's the president, really.
05:56He's not running away legally. So he's out, I'm out.
06:02We don't have friends who will just run away for a chat. That's how life is.
06:13What can you say to your supporters who are saying that if they force you to be arrested, it will cause chaos?
06:21If they understand our government and that this is a government of laws and not of men, I would not be anticipating any action in the near future. But it may come.
06:38That's the thing. Even if I'm a lawyer, let's see what comes up. If they see a hole in me, they can prove it.
06:52Then I go to prison. Even if I die tomorrow or tonight, I will not get up. Remember, Filipinos, I love you and I serve you. Thank you.
