Today Shan & RJ discussed Myles Garrett's monumental four-year extension with the Cleveland Browns, which made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. They covered what this meant for Micah Parsons' upcoming contract negotiations with the Dallas Cowboys. While Parsons may not have Garrett's accolades yet, his performance has put him in the conversation as one of the NFL's premier defenders. They explored the financial expectations for Parsons' next deal and whether Parsons would try to reset the market or take a cheaper deal to stay with the Cowboys.

00:00The Cowboys talk about recently that, Hey, there's nothing we see coming down the pike
00:19that we wouldn't be able to put our hands around Micah's contract. We feel comfortable
00:23about it. And Micah Parsons has to his credit, I guess, talked about how he doesn't need
00:30to be a $40 million a year player, uh, that he doesn't need that much. I think he talked
00:34about that actually during Superbowl that, Hey, I don't need that. I, as long as I can
00:38just, uh, have enough money to get a lake house, retired a lake house somewhere. I'm
00:43happy. But then of course, yesterday he's, he tweets, LOL, yo WTF with a crying, laughing
00:49emoji because he knows he's in all likelihood about to get paid a significant amount of
00:55money.
00:56And the question will be now is did the Cowboys wait too long? Should they have done something
01:00about this last year? Should they've done something about it earlier this off season
01:04or will Micah be a guy who essentially lives up to what he said, which is he doesn't need
01:11that much money. He's all set. He doesn't plan on playing past 30 basically, right?
01:16Which is, you know, coming up, he's talked about, Hey, I want some, I want to be able
01:20to have some supporting cast. I need some help here. I can't do this all on my own.
01:23Let me, uh, let me cut them a little bit of a break here, which historically, I don't
01:28know how much the Cowboys have shown a willingness to use whatever margins you give them in negotiations.
01:34It's just something that they seem to disperse like they normally would. But Micah Parsons
01:40has said consistently, Hey, I can do this a different way. I don't have to approach
01:47this from the idea of reset the market, reset the market. So in theory, Mike is telling
01:51you the miles Garrett thing has nothing to do with it. Now, what that means in reality
01:55is something completely different, but how much do you even buy what he says there about
02:01the idea that he doesn't need to be a $40 million player.
02:04He's just content with getting some generational wealth and leaving it at that. And he doesn't
02:09have to top anybody.
