00:00Facing challenges related to the management of risk and resilience in a context of climate change is increasingly evident and the aim of the Convention is scientific and management challenges for a society resilient to environmental risks in a changing climate, organized by the National Institute of Oceanography and Geophysics OGS in Trieste from March 4 to 6 in the context of the RETORN project.
00:26During the event, a roundtable was organized in which researchers and exponents of the insurance world discussed the issues of natural risks.
00:35The RETORN Foundation and the RETORN project have been in place since the beginning with the aim of contributing to the models that are at the basis of the assessment of insurance policies.
00:45This is a theme that is particularly central at a time when, from January 1, 2025, the obligation for catastrophic policies for productive activities in Italy came into force.
00:57Therefore, our contribution is to try to strengthen the models and the uncertainty at the basis of the models with which the insurances stabilize the policies,
01:09also considering that when a catastrophe happens, we do not only have losses regarding the physical environment, for example, houses, bridges or other buildings, but there is also an impact on people, that is, there are losses of human lives and there are injuries.
01:24The climate is a fundamental issue for general groups that, in designing their own new strategy, has identified it with dual materiality.
01:34It means that it is both a theme that has a very important impact on our business, just think that we have always underlined catastrophic policies,
01:43but it is also a theme on which we think we can generate a positive impact, for example, by helping our customers to have a more conscious and preventive attitude towards the risk itself.
01:53It is difficult to manage the resilience of the population to natural disasters, especially in developing countries.
02:00Therefore, an excellent example of collaboration between the public and the private sector are the Public-Private schemes.
02:06Where the public sector implements an insurance coverage for all citizens in the face of natural disasters, earthquakes or floods, supported in the backstage by insurance companies and re-insurance companies.
02:24These schemes are very efficient because they allow, with an optimized use of capital and funds, to make everyone access the insurance coverage of these events.
02:37And they are also very interesting technical solutions, sometimes also based on parametric products.
