00:00The 11th edition of the Women's Stradivarian Quay, 13 gravel sections to deal with and
00:14a spectacular prize at the end of the day.
00:18Historic, the roster never had it been so packed with new names and indeed some veterans
00:23as well, some coming out of retirement just to enjoy the day.
00:28The spring sunshine welcomed the start and as soon as the flag fell, nothing.
00:35We were waiting.
00:36But this was to be a battle of attrition like no other.
00:39No breakaway managed to extricate itself from the pack and so it was that the gradual grind
00:45down on these spectacular roads began.
00:49The attacks of course did come but from a limited peloton and by the time there was
00:53just shy of 56km remaining, suddenly we had ourselves a separation.
00:59Who was up the road?
01:00That was the big question.
01:01And who might bridge?
01:02Well it looked like it was almost set in stone with 7 riders clear and the gap just starting
01:07to open up.
01:08But as the sectors came through, teams that had missed the move and indeed some of those
01:12that were indeed installed decided to impose themselves.
01:16The pace was high, over 3km faster than the previous edition and quite frankly it needed
01:23a brave move.
01:25Gerritzer went for it from SD Works and was hanging out there, just hoping that somebody
01:31would come and join her.
01:33Slowly but surely this came to pass but what a day was in the offing.
01:38You had to be brave, you had to be extraordinarily good as well and the chances of combining
01:42both were pretty limited.
01:45So it was that the attrition rate took a toll, Longo Borghini, not very well on the day,
01:50the front of the race separated now by 37 seconds from the main body.
01:55And well what talent we had up the road.
01:58Gerritzer joined by Edseth from X-Mobility.
02:01She was on the radio calling for instructions, would she be allowed to go up the road?
02:05Muzik from FDJ Suez was also up front with Ferrand Prevot as well, one of the veterans.
02:12Well it started just like Longo Borghini to have an impact and poor old Gerritzer was
02:16one of those that struggled.
02:18Others bridged over and started joining the fun, Vollering moved up, Muzik had done her
02:23job and now it was Vollering to impose herself.
02:27Well she went for it, others did too and then all of a sudden this race was absolutely turned
02:33on its head.
02:34It had quite frankly detonated out there.
02:38So settle yourselves in for a big drag race to the line.
02:42We were ready and indeed so were those that found themselves up front.
02:46Vollering had bridged, Lebois as well, Muzik had been part of the mood music for the day
02:52I think you might say, but the bravery just kept raining down upon us.
02:57Every section of Strada had something else.
03:01Van der Breggen decided that she would push on and the question was who could follow?
03:06Well it was a big question and not many had the answer.
03:11Vollering bridged and the pair of them together started to make music.
03:16It was amazing, 14 seconds turned to 34, turned to an even bigger margin and it looked like
03:22a battle between the pair of them.
03:24How close though, that was the question and the kilometres were disappearing and it was
03:28only on the very last that we got our answer.
03:31Van der Breggen, such a brave veteran, formerly of course the director sportif of Vollering
03:37herself, would it be the apprentice that became the master?
03:42And on the final ramps we found out the answer.
03:46Time running out to impose yourself and suddenly Vollering bridged to the side, she had a look
03:52at the crowd and then just could not resist, away she went.
03:57Van der Breggen left in her wake and a wake up call for absolutely everybody.
04:01A spectacular piece of riding, timing, bravery, everything rolled into one and the last sequence
04:08of corners allowed Vollering just to take it, not exactly at her ease, but she had time
04:13to celebrate in a fashion that she well deserved.
04:17It was an amazing win, an amazing race and a fabulous 11th edition of the Stella Bianchi
04:24Donna.
04:28It doesn't get much better than this and the smile said it all.
04:34Spectacular day of racing and a truly wonderful podium it was as well.
