Linz Shines on Day 2 of the Judo Grand Prix

The second day of the Upper Austria Grand Prix delivered thrilling judo action. Slovenia’s Kajzer, Italy’s Esposito brothers, and Australia’s Coughlan claimed gold, while Austria’s Fasching thrilled the home crowd with a bronze. A fantastic showcase of skill and spirit in Linz!

00:00The judo family welcomes you back for day two of the Upper Austria Judo Grand Prix.
00:05We are delighted to be here in Linz, the beautiful capital of this amazing region.
00:10Inside the TIPS Arena on International Women's Day, the crowd got to meet one of their heroes.
00:15Before the Grand Prix was officially opened with a ceremony that included speeches from IJF Secretary General Dr. Lisa Allen and
00:22Austrian Judo Federation President Dr. Martin Poiger.
00:26The middleweights then took center stage as the judo got underway.
00:31In the under 63 kilograms, Kaya Kaiser faced So Morichika.
00:37And after a lengthy golden score, the Slovenian secured a tactical victory.
00:41A first gold medal for Kaiser in her new weight category.
00:47Ambassador of Japan to Austria, His Excellency Mr. Kiminori Iwama awarded the medals.
00:56In the under 73 kilograms, Giovanni Esposito faced Daniel Zagedi.
01:02Ayuko decided the contest and gave the Italian his first gold medal on the World Judo Tour.

01:12EJU Head Refereeing Director Mr. Alexander Jaskiewicz awarded the medals.

01:30At under 70 kilograms, Aoife Coughlin faced Ida Eriksson.
01:34The Australian judoka took the top spot on the podium after an impressive Ippon to end the contest.

01:53Double Olympic and double world bronze medalist Mrs. Michaela Polares awarded the medals.

02:03This is my second time in Linz competing.
02:06So last time was the seventh.
02:09This time I've managed to upgrade in a few places.
02:11So even better with the crowd here, it's fantastic.
02:14Super appreciative of good judo and hopefully I showed up for it today.
02:22At under 81 kilograms, Italy's Antonio Esposito followed in his younger brother's footsteps.
02:28Esposito, last year's gold medalist, repeated the feat today with a stylish skipping Kawashigari.
02:35Austrian Judo Federation President Dr. Martin Poiger awarded the medals.
02:40The highlight of the day was Austrian judoka Bernd Fasching taking the bronze medal.
02:45Lighting up the tips arena, the local crowd erupting with joy.
