Georgian Stars Shine on Day 2 of Tbilisi Grand Slam

The second day of the Tbilisi Grand Slam delivered thrilling judo action. Lasha Shavdatuashvili electrified the home crowd with gold at -73kg, while Canada’s Beauchemin-Pinard, Hungary’s Ozbas, and Turkey’s Albayrak also claimed titles.

00:00The beautiful city of Tbilisi played host to the second day of their Judo Grand Slam.
00:07Georgian heroes stepped up to give their fans a huge amount to cheer for,
00:11as the public filled the stadium to the rafters.
00:18At under 63kg, it was Canada's Bozhamin Pinau who put on a show.
00:23Going ahead early against France's Manon Descartes,
00:26she held on to take a gold medal at her first tournament since the Olympics.
00:33Ambassador for France in Georgia, Her Excellency Sheraz Ghazri,
00:37was on hand to award the medals.
00:41All eyes were on the under 73kg.
00:442012 Olympic champion Lasha Shavdatovashvili was on unstoppable form.
00:49The triple Olympic medalist always performs on home soil,
00:53and today was no different.
00:56Sending the crowd into ecstasy,
00:58he took the first gold for the Georgian men's team in Tbilisi this year.
01:06He was awarded his medal by Georgia Minister of Sport, Mr. Shalva Gogoladze.
01:11When the crowd are shouting, Lasha, Lasha,
01:14it gives me great motivation and makes me 100 times stronger than normal.
01:19And I'm very happy and grateful towards the fans who give me this motivation.

01:30At under 70kg, Hungary's Sophie Ozbas took on Olympic medalist Sanna Van Dijk,
01:35having lost her gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games.
01:38Having recently moved up from under 63kg,
01:41Ozbas fought brilliantly to overcome a distinct size difference and take the gold.
01:47She was absolutely delighted.
01:52She was awarded her medal by Georgian Judo Federation President, Mr. Levan Nozadze.
02:01It's really, really nice. The crowd is really, really loud
02:04and I think this makes the atmosphere really good.
02:08Vedat Albayrak put on a dominant performance to take the gold at under 81kg.
02:13After going behind, Albayrak dug deep to get a Rosari score
02:17and hold on to take the title here in Georgia.
02:23The medals were awarded by Georgia State Security Service Deputy Head,
02:27Mr. Shengeli Pitskelauri.
02:29There is never a shortage of action in Tbilisi
02:32and never a shortage of medals for the home team.
02:35On top of the two golds they've had so far,
02:38they've also taken some hard-earned bronzes in dramatic fashion.
02:43The combination of fantastic judo and passionate fans
