00:00As the saying goes, women support women.
00:03That is the goal of Soroptimist International,
00:06a women's organization that organizes programs for women.
00:12They have different chapters and our guest this morning is the president of Soroptimist International,
00:17Quezon City, Ms. Margie De Castro.
00:20Good morning, ma'am, and welcome to Rise and Shine, Philippines.
00:23Good morning, Sir Rod and Ma'am Leslie.
00:26Good morning, and also to the viewers of Rise and Shine, Philippines.
00:33Good morning, Ma'am Margie.
00:35What is the Soroptimist International?
00:39Because we heard that there are many branches or chapters.
00:42And what do you do?
00:44Okay, so our club is Soroptimist International of Quezon City,
00:50which is under the district known as Metro Manila North East District.
00:56And this district is also under region Soroptimist International of America's Philippine region, a foundation, Inc.
01:06So it is a part of a global volunteer organization which provides women and girls
01:14with access to education, training that they need to provide to achieve economic empowerment.
01:23So that is the goal of our organization.
01:28Ma'am, in that group, what are the particular projects to help women,
01:35especially those in poor communities, to be financially independent?
01:39Okay, so Soroptimist has four pillars of success.
01:43We have the membership, the program, the public awareness act, and also the fundraising.
01:51So under the program pillar, we have three programs.
01:56We have the LYDA, it's Living Your Dream Awards for Women.
02:05So the next one, we have the DIBI, it's a career support for girls.
02:11So DIBI means Dream It, Be It.
02:15And we have the Living Your Dream Organization.
02:18So online platform po ito, which has discussion with regards to women, empowerment, and other, anything about women.
02:35That's all about women.
02:36So itong program na LYDA, it assists women and girls who are breadwinners of their family.
02:45And that the club, if ever you will be nominated or you will be a winner,
02:51kasi ito po, every club, like for example, in a district, so there are four clubs or five clubs.
02:59So every club sa district has a nominee, so may maging club winner.
03:05These are nominated by individuals na parang gusto nila suportaran or nakikitaan nila mga family or mga neighbors, no?
03:18May ano sila inominate nila sa club or some other members will scout for girls or women na pwede i-assist dito sa program na to.
03:31Kasi we assist the education, tuition fees, kasi breadwinner sila but they have not financially capable to continue with their education.
03:45So this program is a cornerstone program ng Soroptimist International, meaning it is empowering women, ensuring that they have access to education.
03:57Maganda yun no ma'am, kasi syempre yung mga ibang breadwinners natin, kumbaga parang nakakalimutan na nila minsan yung kanila mga sarili,
04:05may na rin nila natatapos yung pag-aaral, kasi nga maaga na nagtatrabaho eh para masuportahan yung mga pamilya.
04:12So meron po ba kayong pwede ma-ishare sa amin ng mga success stories?
04:17So we have, in our club, last year we have a teacher, education, kinuha niyang course.
04:25And that last year, she graduated summa cum laude.
04:29And also, from Gapan po siya.
04:33And also, now nag-continue siya ng masteral.
04:37And she became a part of the faculty ng school niya.
04:45I think, no ma'am, the world will be a better place if you have those empowered women.
04:49And yung organization, ma'am, gives a platform opportunity to have these women magkaroon ng fighting chance in life.
04:56Correct.
04:57At saka parang, di ba, pag nasusuportahan natin yung mga kapwa nating kababayan, mas lumalakas yung loob eh.
05:03Yeah.
05:04And panalo tayong lahat, civil society po.
05:07Bukas, ma'am, mayroon kayong event, nabanggay kita to kanina, yung Dream It, Be It, para sa mga estudyante, ano ba dapat nilang asahan dito?
05:15Okay, itong Dream It, Be It, so one of the program sa four pillars of success ng Soroptimist.
05:22So dito, ang target market dito are girls sa secondary schools, mga around grade 9 to 12.
05:30So ano po ito, yung parang the club will be providing information and resources as well,
05:37na mag-tattle ng topics on career opportunities.
05:43Ato yung mga batang ito, ito po yung mag-graduate na ng high school.
05:50So we are preparing them for their career opportunities, leading them na kung anong course ko konin.
05:58So we will conduct success stories of our members too, para maano natin sila ma-encourage to ano yung course na inaano namin.
06:11And also, if ever they have attended this DIBI, so nag-e-enroll sila na ng college.
06:18So if ever financially incapacitated parin sila, so they can apply sa ibang project namin.
06:27We have one of the regions or SIAPR identifying projects which is ATE, ang tawag namin, is Access to Education.
06:37Pwede silang mag-apply ng scholarship, so mag-scholarship grant, as well as pwede siyang mag-working scholar, diba?
06:45And also, in some way, pwede kaming mag-provide ng mga computers or laptop if they need it.
06:52Or some, mag-finance din kami yung mga parang graduating na pwede siya yung mga field trip nila
07:04or yung training nila, diba?
07:06Minsan mag-OJT, may mga expenses, we can assist them.
07:11Wow, ang galing naman nun.
07:13Meron para po kayong isa pang event, March 15 naman.
07:16Ito naman po, e para sa mga nanay sa barangay pa yata.
07:19So ano naman po kaya yung mga laman ng programa at paano po ito kaya makakatulong sa kanila?
07:26So this project on March 15, it's a, ano yun, yung parang part of one of the identifying project ng Soroptimist
07:37which is Adopt a Barangay.
07:40So under this program, Adopt a Barangay, may certain groups of women, puro women tayo.
07:48So we have here the members of the Amlak, Amlakville, Orbat Gardeners sila.
07:55So ang ano natin dito para may training, training on the candle making.
08:02Kasi during one of our, during one of our parang discussion, consultation, yun ang gusto nilang project.
08:12Magiging ano, income generating gan sa future, aside from gardening.
08:17Kasi one of the thrust ng organization namin is go green.
08:24Soroptimist, go green.
08:25So it's more on the environment.
08:28Nakakatoa mam na may mga ganyan pong proyekto na na-apply para sa mga kababiyan mo.
08:33Parang naman po sa mga nai-inspire at naging interesado po dito,
08:37paano po makikilahok ang publiko sa inyong advocacy?
08:39O kasi may mga paraan po ba para makatulong ang iba?
08:42Yeah, sa LYDA, yung Living Your Dream Awards for Women,
08:48makakatulong itong mga public, yun yung sila mag-nominate.
08:52Baka may gusto silang tulungan na nga friends or relatives or mga neighbors
08:58na nakikitaan nila ng potential.
09:01Kaya lang walang kapasidad na mag-aral sa sarili niyang ano.
09:10So makak-nominate sila, so we're asking or encouraging.
09:15Kasi mayroon kami isang ano na ano lang, parang nirefer through our,
