Dorothy Stratten, pseudonym of Dorothy Ruth Hoogstraten (February 28, 1960 – August 14, 1980) was a Canadian model and actress. The story of Dorothy Stratten is told in the film Star 80. The Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams, together with co-writer Jim Vallance, wrote the song "The Best Was Yet to Come". The musical group Stratten from Bologna adopted this name in homage to Dorothy Stratten. The director and actor Peter Bogdanovich, who had a relationship with Stratten, published a book in her memory in 1984: The Killing of the Unicorn: Dorothy Stratten 1960-1980. She was murdered at the age of 20 by her ex-husband/manager Paul Snider, who committed suicide the same day. Dorothy is buried at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.
