00:00Everyone, please be prepared for the high price of electricity in March.
00:04The Energy Regulatory Commission approved an additional charge to fund plants for renewable energy.
00:11How much? Let's find out in this episode of Pagtuto with Jonathan Andal.
00:15All kinds of electricity savings are being made by Anthony, who owns a food business.
00:24But their last bill for electricity is still more than P1,000.
00:30Now, we're almost out of air conditioners.
00:33Before, our refrigerator was big.
00:38Now, it's just small.
00:39This dispenser is just cold, but it's not 24 hours anymore.
00:45And in March, it's expected to go up.
00:48The Energy Regulatory Commission or ERC approved an adjustment to the so-called FITOL or Feed-in Tariff Allowance that can be seen at the top of the bill.
00:58This is the charge for all electricity users to fund plants for renewable energy such as biomass, solar, wind, and hydro plants.
01:09The charge is now 8 centavos per kilowatt hour, which will be 11 centavos in March,
01:16equivalent to P7 added to the bill for consumers consuming 200 kilowatt hours in a month.
01:22The ERC said that an additional charge is needed because the fund that supports the country's renewable energy is running out.
01:30In other words, the 8 centavos that is being collected from us is not enough to pay for the renewable energy that is being supplied to us.
01:41Because our WESEM rates are low, the system of the fund also gets it from WESEM.
01:48Because our WESEM rate is low, we need to pay separately through this FITOL fund.
01:59The Meralko said that they are only the recipients of FITOL charges and this does not go to them, but they remit it to TRANSCO or National Transmission Corporation.
02:08But aside from the FITOL adjustment, are there any other additional charges for electricity?
02:14We don't have an announcement in terms of the generation charge. It is the only cost that usually increases every month.
02:26And so we will need to wait for the final billings from all our suppliers.
02:31Meralko and other distribution utilities are still asking for FITOL in 2015, according to the ERC's order.
02:38But in 2023, it was suspended for a year because the fund is not enough for renewable energy
02:45and to help Filipinos in the middle of the love of electricity.
02:49But now, is there any hope that the ERC will suspend it again?
02:54We are always ready to monitor so that if it needs to be suspended, it will be suspended and we will stop the collection.
03:02But for now, we need to implement this so that we can pay those who supply us with renewable energy.
