00:18Until now, scientists had only identified a single cold current that runs along the
00:23eastern coast of Greenland.
00:26Using temperature, salinity, and speed data gathered on this expedition, they were able
00:32to map the path of a new undersea river, the Northern Icelandic Jet Stream.
00:40They believe that Arctic warming is slowing the flow of this current and altering general
00:46circulation in the oceans.
00:50This may explain the recurrence of extensive cold periods during wintertime and escalating
00:56heatwaves in the summer.
