00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. raised a sum of Php 1 billion to buy rice from farmers.
00:08Meanwhile, aside from rice, the Agriculture Department is also focusing on lowering the price of pork in the market.
00:17Vel Custodio of PTV has this national news.
00:23President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. raised a sum of Php 1 billion to buy rice from farmers.
00:29We agreed with the NFA Council that we will buy rice this year, 2025, for a minimum of Php 23 per kilo
00:38and it can reach Php 30 per kilo depending on the market.
00:42Our beloved President, President Bongbong Marcos, also raised a sum of Php 9 billion to buy rice from our farmers.
00:53This additional fund came from last year.
00:56Next, the National Food Authority turned over rice to local government units that showed interest in buying NFA rice yesterday
01:05following the declaration of the National Food Security Emergency on rice.
01:09The DA issued by the Food Terminal Incorporated, or FTI, the rice distributed to local governments.
01:1667 LGUs already signified their interest in buying NFA rice.
01:21These include San Juan, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Camarines Sur.
01:26NFA rice is sold for Php 33 per kilo to LGUs,
01:30while it can be sold to LGUs, government agencies, and GOCCs for buyers of up to Php 35 per kilo.
01:38Meanwhile, DA Secretary Francisco Tularel Jr. said that the Food Terminal Incorporated and Planters Products Incorporated
01:47are planning to join the Minimum Access Value, or MAV, this year.
01:50The MAV is an import system that has a lower tariff, just like pork that has a 15 percent tariff.
01:55Based on the initial direction of the DA,
01:58the MAV has 55,000 tons.
02:0030,000 tons will go to the processor,
02:03while 15,000 tons will go to the DA through FTI and PPI.
02:08We have the capability to buy pork from abroad to tame prices if needed.
02:16We're using the lower tax of MAV.
02:20What we will leave to our traders is 10,000 tons, equally distributed.
02:26The DA clarified that the MAV is not delayed this year because it is only in the first quarter of the year.
02:31It is a target agency to issue its final allocation before February ends.
