Visibility & Graphics in Revit – Essential Skill
Controlling Visibility and Graphics (VG) in Revit is crucial for managing how elements appear in different views. This helps improve workflow efficiency, clarity, and presentation.

1. Accessing Visibility/Graphics Settings
Press VG (VV also works) to open the Visibility/Graphics Overrides dialog.
Or go to View Tab → Graphics Panel → Visibility/Graphics.
2. Understanding the Visibility/Graphics Overrides Dialog
A) Categories Tab (Control Object Visibility)
✅ Turn elements ON/OFF using the checkboxes (e.g., hide walls, show only furniture).
✅ Expand Annotation Categories, Model Categories, and Imported Categories for specific control.

📌 Tip: Use this to create clean views for presentations or focus on specific design elements.

B) Filters (Advanced Control)
Apply Filters to highlight or hide specific elements based on parameters (e.g., hide small pipes, highlight concrete walls).
Go to Filters Tab → Add → Create New Filter → Select Categories → Set Rules.
📌 Example: Create a filter to highlight all ducts larger than 300mm in red.

C) Overrides (Customize Appearance)
✅ Click on Cut, Projection, Surface, or Transparency to change colors, line styles, or patterns.
✅ Adjust Transparency for elements like glass or mesh.
✅ Use Halftone to fade less important elements.

📌 Tip: Override floor finishes, wall layers, or mechanical systems to improve readability.

D) Import Categories (Control Linked Files)
✅ Hide or modify linked AutoCAD, IFC, or Revit files to declutter views.
✅ Expand Revit Links → Set them to By Host View or Custom visibility settings.

📌 Tip: Use Linked Views to match the visibility settings from another Revit file.

3. Using View Templates for Consistency
Instead of adjusting VG settings for every view, use View Templates.
Go to View Tab → View Templates → Create Template from View.
Apply the template to multiple views to maintain consistency.
📌 Tip: Useful for standardizing floor plans, elevations, or sections.

4. Using Temporary Hide/Isolate (Shortcut: EH & HR)
✅ Hide Elements Temporarily – Select an element, then press EH.
✅ Isolate Elements – Select an element, then press HI.
✅ Click Reset Temporary Hide/Isolate (light bulb icon) to restore visibility.

📌 Tip: Use Temporary Hide when working in complex models to focus on specific elements.

5. Controlling View Range & Section Box
View Range (for plans): Controls what heights are visible in plan views.
✅ Go to View Properties → View Range and adjust Cut Plane & Bottom Levels.
Section Box (for 3D Views):
✅ Enable Section Box in Properties → Adjust grips to focus on an area.
📌 Tip: Use Section Boxes to isolate mechanical or structural systems in 3D.

🚀 Quick Summary:
🔹 Press VG to open Visibility/Graphics.
🔹 Turn categories ON/OFF (Walls, Doors, Pipes, etc.).
🔹 Use Filters
