Creating and managing views in Revit is essential for documenting your design and visualizing different aspects of your project. Revit provides several view types—such as floor plans, sections, elevations, 3D views, and drafting views—each serving a different purpose. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to create and work with views in Revit.

Step 1: Open or Create a Revit Project
Open an Existing Project or Start a New One:
Launch Revit and either open an existing project or create a new one using a suitable template (e.g., Architectural Template).

Familiarize Yourself with the Project Browser:
The Project Browser lists all views (e.g., Floor Plans, Elevations, Sections, 3D Views, Drafting Views, etc.) and will be your primary navigation tool.

Step 2: Creating Floor Plan Views
Floor plans are the most common view for architectural design.

Access the View Tab:
Go to the View tab on the ribbon.

Create a New Floor Plan:

Click on Plan Views in the Create panel.
Select Floor Plan.
The New Floor Plan dialog box will appear, showing available levels.
Choose the level for which you want to create the floor plan and click OK.
The new floor plan appears in your workspace and is automatically added to the Project Browser under “Floor Plans.”
Customize the Floor Plan (Optional):

Adjust view scale, graphics, and visibility settings as needed.
Apply view templates for standardized appearance.
Step 3: Creating Section Views
Section views help you examine the interior structure and details of your model.

Open a Floor Plan View:
It’s easiest to create sections from a floor plan.

Activate the Section Tool:

Go to the View tab.
Click on the Section tool in the Create panel.
Draw the Section Line:

Click to place the start point of the section line on your floor plan.
Drag and click to place the endpoint.
A preview of the section box appears.
Click Finish (the checkmark) to complete the command.
Access the Section View:

The new section view is automatically generated and appears in the Project Browser under “Sections.”
Double-click the section view to open it and adjust its extents if needed.
Step 4: Creating Elevation Views
Elevation views provide a vertical perspective of your building.

Open a Floor Plan View:
Elevation markers are usually placed on a floor plan.

Activate the Elevation Tool:

On the View tab, click on the Elevation tool.
Place the Elevation Marker:

Click on the wall or area in the floor plan where you want an elevation.
An elevation marker with multiple arrows appears.
You can drag the marker to adjust its location and extents.
Access the Elevation View:

The elevation view is automatically created and listed under “Elevations” in the Project Browser.
Open the view to verify and adjust properties like the field of view.
Step 5: Creating 3D Views
3D views help you visualize the model in three dimensions.

Quick 3D View:

Click the Default 3D View icon (a small cube) in the Quick Access Toolbar, or press F3.
Revit generates a 3D view
