00:00The big news today is that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has told the Blue Jays that he's not going to sign and the Blue Jays are faced with the prospect of maybe dealing Vlad Jr., which is something that has been bandied about for more than a year.
00:19I did a segment in the middle of the season last year about trading for Vlad Jr. and what the move could be this offseason.
00:28So here we are, Cubs as constructed right now, having added Justin Turner and seeing what that is and all the positional things that are floating here.
00:39I don't think they should trade for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as of right now today. I do not think that they should.
00:49You have given up a ton to get Kyle Tucker in terms of Cam Smith and you've got one year with him, you've got one year to try and convince him to sign here.
01:00And to give up a ton more for a one-year rental of Vlad Jr., to give up a bunch more kids when you don't really have a positional fit and mix right now is an awkward thing.
01:14I think what you need is an ace pitcher. I would much rather trade. If I'm going to trade more pieces for a one-year rental, I would much rather try and swing a deal for Dylan Cease or Michael King, one of the pitchers from San Diego.
01:28I would much rather make that kind of deal than I would for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. right now because Vlad is also a guy who I don't want to invest in his aging.
01:38I do not want to invest in that body type and that aging. If I'm going to sign somebody, I'll sign Kyle Tucker. I'm all here for signing Kyle Tucker to a long-term deal, not Vlad Jr.
01:51So giving it all up for another rental when you're almost assuredly not going to sign him to me is not a good idea right now.
