00:00John, going back to last week, what was your reaction to Craig Council essentially sending
00:05a message as we interpreted it to either Jed Hoyer, Tom Ricketts, or both by saying every
00:12year the Cubs should have a 90-win roster and they need to do more to close the gap
00:16between them and the Brewers?
00:18Well, I agree.
00:20We've been saying this on the show forever, right?
00:23I mean, the Cubs revenues are high.
00:25They're not the Yankees or the Red Sox or the Dodgers, but certainly in the top five
00:30or six teams in terms of revenue, you know, I think it's time to spend.
00:36You know, it's enough of this mediocrity and they've got to get going.
00:39And it's in a decent free agent crop, you know, whether it be Alonzo and they move Bush
00:46to second and trade Horner, or whether they go for one of the top pitchers, Max Freed,
00:52Corbin Burns.
00:53There are a lot of good pitchers that are out there, including those two number one
00:56type pitchers.
00:57So, you know, it's time for the Cubs to spend some of that profit.
01:02I would agree.
01:03I mean, he probably said it more subtly and nicer than me, but time to get going for the
01:08Cubs because they do not spend their profits.
01:12Why are they not mentioned in the Soto sweepstakes?
01:15I get it.
01:16You know, there are only five teams that are mentioned, but shouldn't every team in baseball
01:22be after that guy?
01:23He's so young and he's so good.
01:25Right.
01:26Right.
01:27I mean, Yamamoto, a 25-year-old star free agent pitcher from Japan, every big market
01:32team was in on him.
01:33So here's the guy who's actually done it at the major league level, who's also 25 years
01:38old.
01:39I mean, when I get down to eight or nine teams, I mentioned the Cubs because they can do it.
01:43They have the wherewithal to do it, but the history tells us not likely to do it.
01:47I mean, it's going to be a tough, it's going to be a tough one because everything you hear
01:51is he likes the Yankees.
01:52You know, they have the most revenue, no reason for them not to give it their best to bring
01:59him back.
02:00You know, I mean, he's already here, he's got Judge Batty behind him.
02:04I mean, certainly Steve Cohen is the richest owner.
02:07I mean, not the biggest revenue team and they are losing money, but, and then of course
02:11the Dodgers, you know, they are hell bent on winning.
02:16Good for them.
02:17And they have a ridiculously great TV deal.
