00:00For millions of young Indians, it is the ultimate dream to crack the civil service exam that's

00:09conducted by the UPSC or the Union Public Service Commission. This is the exam that

00:14can make you an IAS or an Indian Administrative Service Officer and a Foreign Service Officer

00:20or get you to the police services, all of these the premier services in the country.

00:26And it's something that millions of young Indians, as I said, aspire for and really

00:31struggle and work hard for because it's probably the toughest exam in the world, followed by

00:36an equally tough interview process, which is why the controversy around IAS trainee

00:41Pooja Khedkar is something that's really hit a nerve amongst most Indians. Here is a trainee

00:47who allegedly faked her address, her identity, her caste, and even disabilities in order

00:54to be able to game the system and boost her rank so that she gets into the IAS. Now, this

00:59is in shockwaves because people are asking, how is it possible that this woman got away

01:04with it, that she felt confident enough to get away with it? Where was the stringent

01:09verification process that the UPSC is so well known for? Because something like this has

01:14now opened up a can of worms. And we're now hearing about other cases, more cases where

01:20the quota system within the IAS selection process has been gamed by others who've either

01:27faked their economic backwardness, faked disabilities in order to secure a higher rank, all at the

01:33cost of those who genuinely needed to avail that quota. And even though the UPSC chairman

01:40has suddenly resigned five years before the end of his tenure, apparently or reportedly

01:45because of this controversy, though the government denies it officially, the fact is that's not

01:50going to be enough. It's going to require a complete overhaul of the UPSC in order for

01:56people to have their faith restored in the system once again.
