00:00One of the biggest issues confronting young people in India today is the issue of unemployment
00:09and job creation. India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. But the quality
00:15of jobs that young people are getting is just simply not good enough. Recent studies have
00:21actually shown that the more educated an Indian is, a youngster is, the more likely they are
00:28to not find the right job that's suited for their skill and their talent. Unemployment
00:33is a huge issue. And that's why the Congress manifesto released earlier this month has
00:38a big focus on how the party would create jobs in various sectors if it were voted to
00:43power. This is important, as I said, simply because it is an actual issue that is concerning
00:48people at the grassroots. And on paper, at least the Congress has listed out a series
00:54of significant steps, which do look good, it would have to be tested on the ground to
00:59see how it's implemented. But what it does highlight is that India has this fast rate
01:06of growth, the GDP numbers on paper look quite good, the sensex is soaring, there are some
01:11sectors of the economy that are doing better than others. But the fact is that as far as
01:16quality of jobs is concerned, and white collar jobs such as in the IT sector, these have
01:21been on a steady decline. And this is something that any new government would have to confront
01:27in a big way. India has a huge advantage in terms of demographics, it has the largest
01:32young population in the world. And this is something that we can use to our advantage.
01:37What we need now is the political will to see this through.
