Bollywood actor and anti-nepo baby Siddhant Chaturvedi, who is in splendid form in the stirring coming-of-age film ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ (KGHK) on Netflix, claims he is infamous for rejecting scripts. He has even kept count, perhaps for bragging rights.
But the five-movie-old actor, who is fast becoming the poster boy for cool and suave, makes this tally declaration with no superciliousness. His wide grin and laidback vide, which were on clear display during our virtual interview, undercut any potential misgivings.

00:00people like Sushant and Ayushman you know they really inspired me to kind of because then you
00:05see hope because it's very difficult to get in.
00:09You spoke about such a sensitive subject in such a you know without making it a light topic which
00:16I thought was a great you know attempt from you. Are you very proud of this scene yourself?
00:22My job as an actor is to make you guys feel right so now if you're saying that you felt
00:28something and so I think it's a success for me so yes I should be proud and I am proud of the
00:35not only the scene but the whole film actually. I'm proud of Arjun, he's a first-time director,
00:40he's been my friend since Gully Boy, he was Zoya's DA back then and I'm proud of him,
00:45I'm proud of Ananya, I'm proud of Adarsh, I'm proud of everybody who are a part of this film
00:50and I hope that you guys are proud of me as well because Zoya and Reema are very proud.
00:56Your friendship seemed very organic as opposed to inauthentic. How are you guys, did you guys
01:02have workshops perhaps to break the ice?
01:04Fortunately, me and Ananya had worked on Gheraiya and we had intense workshops back then as well so
01:10me and Ananya know each other since a while now so our bond was always intact but with Adarsh I
01:15think we really bonded in Goa so what Arjun's idea was to take us to Goa before the film starts
01:20and just let us be and just like just party, chill, roam around Goa and that's what we did all
01:25three of us, all four of us, me, Arjun, Ananya and Adarsh we all went to Goa and we were just
01:30driving on our scooties, we were on the beach, we were partying, we were going for dinner, we just
01:34had a great time and we actually, Arjun which he didn't tell us that he was like he just keep
01:39recording everything, he recorded everything and that's the opening title track so I think we
01:43really bonded there and that was never tough you know to kind of bond or we really are, have
01:51become close friends like and I think that's going to be there even after the film ends.
01:55The best part about this movie is like it's very relatable. Was that a draw for you that you know
02:00even the intergenerational conversations were so authentic?
02:03I was very you know scared that if my parents will like the film or not so I called them for
02:10one of the screenings and I was not sure that they'll get it because like a cool film, Gen Z
02:15film if they get it or not. My dad literally after the film ended he literally walked up, he
02:22stood up and walked out and I was like what is up and so my mom followed him and he didn't wait.
02:28Well I was like okay I don't know what happened and then he called me from the car and he said
02:35sorry I actually got up and left because I had tears in my eyes and I didn't want to embarrass
02:39myself crying in front of everybody and he said what have you done? He's like what is this? This
02:44is and they related to every aspect of it and I was surprised and then we have a we had a
02:50screening for you know a lot of people who are above the age of 40-45 and they all loved it and
02:57they were all like in fact they were getting it more than the so either the kids were getting it
03:02under 25 or the highest impact is under 25 and over I think 40. Our generation the millennial
03:10millennial we are like ha we love the film and all but trust me the impact which is it is having
03:16on the younger Gen Z's and the older ones is phenomenal and I'm like wait we made this film
03:23for our generation and suddenly it's kind of catering to almost everybody everything else
03:27like the relationships in the film I think it's Zoya and Reema they always do a great job with
03:31that and Arjun obviously executed it so, so, so happy.
03:36Did you find that appealing as well Siddharth that finally it's a Bollywood movie where the
03:40friends don't end up in love?
03:41Me and Ananya never end up in love come on what is what are the odds we have done two films
03:46together and in both of them we are not in love that's the the beauty of it I guess with our
03:53relationship as well we also have a Tom and Jerry kind of an equation where we I keep pulling her
03:58capes and she'll keep you know she'll get angry so in real life also it's like that only you know I
04:03keep making you know jokes around her and she'll also keep trying to pull my leg but at the same
04:10time very protective about her you know and I do care for her a lot so I think it's coming
04:14across in the film as well but yeah I'm glad that we didn't take that route.
04:18You have been given the shout out by Vikramaditya Motwani one of my favourite filmmakers
04:22he's brilliant and you've been getting honestly you've been getting great reviews from all
04:27around.
04:27I'm so overwhelmed and this has happened after a long time by the way after Gully Boy this is
04:32where I'm feeling like okay wow okay you know there's this kind of a you know pure love people
04:37are just showering and they're writing long, long messages and it has happened after a while I
04:42really needed this as an actor.
04:43How do you crack scripts? What's your process like? Do you reject a lot of roles before saying
04:48yes to a particular movie?
04:50This year I've rejected 78 scripts it's not because the scripts are bad or anything it's at
04:55what point of life I am in and what kind of work which I want to do is really matters to me a lot
05:01and I never want to be typecasted I want to I want to change the mould of you know Bollywood
05:06perception of a hero if I would say and if I would dare to because I always you know if you
05:12study Bollywood it has always been like that you know when Mr. Bachchan saab came there was a
05:17different romantic kind of angle suddenly there was this angry young man mould which changed the
05:21whole thing and that that was lasting till Mr. Shah Rukh Khan came and suddenly he changed the
05:26mould again the thing is they always never go with the trend and I believe strongly in that I
05:31don't ever go with the trend I always like to explore as an actor also myself I'll do like
05:37something like a phone booth which is a different genre or which is different or a Bunty Bubbly
05:41for that reason I'll always keep trying my hands and everything at the same time I want to connect
05:48to the youth because that's the only truth which I can hold right now rather than trying to go
05:53what I believe in is I will connect to the youth and they will grow and multiply and have
05:58children and that will become the mass after 10 years that's what I'm investing in right now I'm
06:02investing in the future I'm not investing you won't be seeing me doing those you know films even
06:07though I love them the typical Bollywood song and dance I love them and you know I really want to
06:14do something like that also but at the same time also want to balance it with really something
06:19which is provoking which is you know content is good and especially the characters I need
06:24characters because I never choose characters which are closer to me I do not like I think I
06:29just get bored of doing it I always do tend to choose characters which are so so far away and I
06:34wanted to for a change play my age at the same time not play myself so that's why like stand-up
06:40comedy and the layers and everything so that really fascinates me I do not want to place
06:44anything close to me yet but yes I mean eventually I will want to try that too so there is no like
06:52you know a rule to it which I put I just get fascinated by characters or skills they have
06:57like rapping or stand-up comedy you know the genre of the film so it really excites me it's
07:02very abstract I can't define do you feel like a star Siddhant because you are this poster boy
07:08for Gen Z now for this anti-Nepo baby that you are self-made etc so there's a whole tribe
07:15rooting for you I never felt like you know it never goes to my head somehow I always feel yeah
07:23this is still like two percent of what I can do wait for it I am always like people come to me
07:27and like oh you're so good and they're rooting I was like wait for it wait for it you haven't even
07:30seen the best yet and they're like no but whatever you're doing right now I was like yeah right now
07:36yes because I'm doing my job but there's so much more which I want to give there's so much more
07:40which I can do people haven't seen me dancing like full-fledgedly on screen people haven't seen
07:44me doing action which they will see in the next film which is a big scale action film so people
07:48have not actually discovered a lot about me yet but they're still rooting for me so I'm I mean
07:53only gratitude and I'm humbled by that but there is so much more which I have in me and I think
08:00people will only and only be surprised and I'll never let them down whoever's rooting for me I'll
08:05just only and only make them proud because when I was struggling and when I had not made it I
08:10would want to kind of see somebody do it without any kind of background or without any kind of
08:16support from the industry and still make it big and we have Mr. Shah Rukh Khan to do that so he
08:22was always my idol people like Sushant and Ayushman you know they really inspired me to kind
08:27of because then you see hope because it's very difficult to get in when I got here and then I
08:32feel very, very, very responsible that if I've got here I won't let it go waste because and I will
08:37keep delivering more and more and trust me there's so much more which I have to do more you know
08:40this one line which always sticks to me is like
08:48these lines just stick to me you know always so yes I'm feeling happy that people are loving it
08:54but I feel like I'm more excited to show them what's more rather than being like
08:58okay, feel like a star. No, I don't do that. It's just not me.
