00:00The Opposition India Alliance just held its first Coordination Committee meeting in Delhi
00:08this week. And what is clear is that the inherent contradictions, challenges and hurdles that
00:13the opposition bloc faces are still very much there. In fact, they are now proving to be
00:19a big problem. For example, on the crucial issue of seat sharing, they still haven't
00:24been able to actually get down to the brass tacks and figure out how to divide seats among
00:29themselves for the upcoming general election, state by state. They've only reiterated that
00:35they're going to do this very soon. Now, how that's actually going to be done is very,
00:39very complicated because there are so many internal rivalries, depending on which state
00:44it is, for example, the Trinamool versus the left in Congress in Bengal, and then the Aam
00:49Aadmi Party versus the Congress Party across many, many states now, including in the upcoming
00:54state elections later this year. This Coordination Committee meeting in Delhi, by the way, was
00:59not attended by the Trinamool Congress at all. Abhishek Banerjee was supposed to be
01:03there, but then he was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on the same day. It's curious,
01:07however, why the TMC didn't choose to send anyone else. If you remember in Mumbai, Mamata
01:12Banerjee too had not addressed the press with the rest of the opposition leaders. In fact,
01:18she left even before the formal meeting finished. She was also the only one who opposed the
01:22inclusion of a caste census in a joint resolution that was meant to have been passed by the
01:26opposition bloc. So again, what the TMC is doing and why it's kind of taking this different
01:33position is also something that is confounding other members of the opposition bloc. And
01:38these are just some amongst the many, many challenges that the India Alliance faces.
