00:00Since the Karnataka elections, a lot has changed politically.
00:07The Congress is more upbeat, but in the BJP camp also, something has changed.
00:12A new sense of pragmatism seems to have crept in, not just because of the Karnataka defeat,
00:17but also because the party realizes it could lose some seats in the Lok Sabha polls next
00:22year in those areas where it had peaked last time, such as Hindi heartland states.
00:28So the Prime Minister himself has directed the party to reach out to old and new alliance
00:32partners in the run-up to next year's general election.
00:36That includes those who had left the NDA, like the TDP and the Akali Dal, and potential
00:40new partners like the JDS in Karnataka, as well as others.
00:44Now, the NDA, as I said, already does exist, but more than 15 parties left the fold since
00:502014, largely because of the BJP's disdainful attitude towards its smaller partners.
00:56As the BJP kept on expanding, its leadership felt that it didn't need to take on other
01:00parties with them.
01:02However, that calculation has now changed.
01:05But in order for this alliance to succeed this time, the BJP will have to change its
01:09approach into how it deals with partners and allies.
