00:00The Bureau of Corrections' target is to make the Pesos Zone or Economic Zone the number one in the country
00:05so that millions of investments can be made.
00:08This is what Louisa Erispe reported.
00:13It's not just the problems in prison that are expected to be solved
00:17by the ASEAN countries' efforts to talk about the prison system in different countries.
00:22According to the Bureau of Corrections,
00:24millions of investments are also expected to enter the Philippines.
00:29The Bureau of Corrections laid out to the countries in the region
00:32the plan to make the Pesos Zone or Economic Zone the number one in the country,
00:37particularly the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm.
00:40After this conference, I was told by the PESA Director General
00:46that investors will be coming in from Thailand, from Singapore and other countries
00:54because they want to also invest in the Philippines.
00:58Iwahig Prison will be a new prison.
01:01The Bureau of Corrections' plan is to use 28,300 hectares of land,
01:05most of which will be used to grow agricultural products, fisheries and others.
01:11So with the help of the investments, Iwahig will become a food security hub.
01:15Number one is food security.
01:19That's the problem of the country.
01:23Because of the timing change,
01:26we need to make sure that we produce the food that we need.
01:31So this will be a hub for aqua and agricultural products.
01:36The persons deprived of liberty will be transferred from the new believed prison
01:41to Iwahig and other regional facilities.
01:43They will also help in farming, raising animals and aquaculture.
01:48According to the Bureau of Corrections,
01:50PDLs have a lot of food and work that they can use for their freedom.
01:56We want the PDLs to be relevant.
02:00We want the PDLs to be, as early as now,
02:04to be able to contribute something to the society.
02:08And when the time comes that there will be GCTA and a lot of freedom,
02:12they are prepared to have a reintegration program.
02:17They really need a better place to live because they get sick there.
02:22And then of course, this will not stop me from looking around.
02:28We will also put a farm in Region 1.
02:31But we really have to get out of Metro Manila
02:37because really our position there is untenable.
02:40For the new believed prison,
02:42because the PDLs will be gone,
02:45the Bureau of Corrections plans to sell this land.
02:48Like what they did in Davao Penal Colony now,
02:50they are now earning the land they used to sleep on,
02:5320 million pesos per month.
02:56Imagine all the regions, we earn at least 20 million a month.
03:02We have about 17 regions.
03:07So, how much is that? That's big.
03:12Almost 300 million a month, we can generate income.
03:16Bucor is positive that this plan will be completed by 2028
03:20or until the term of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
03:24Not only food security, they are also looking for a way
03:28to strengthen tourism in the country.
03:30Luisa Erispe, for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
