00:00Panir Selvam Prantaman, the 38-year-old Malaysian convicted of drug trafficking in Singapore,
00:07will be executed on Thursday, February 20, according to his former lawyer M. Ravi.
00:13In a Facebook post, Ravi said Panir's sister told him that she had received a letter from
00:18the prison today confirming his execution in four days.
00:23Ravi claimed that during his time representing Panir in 2020, Singapore's prison authorities
00:28improperly forwarded confidential information on 13 inmates to the Singapore Attorney-General's
00:35chambers.
00:36He said the breach is egregious under international law, especially when it involves interference
00:41with privileged solicitor-client information.
00:44Ravi said Panir had assisted the authorities in this case, but the prosecution did not
00:49certify his cooperation, leading to the judge's imposition of the mandatory death penalty
00:54in 2017.
00:56Panir was convicted on June 27, 2017, by the Singapore High Court for trafficking 51.84
01:03grams of diamorphine at the Woodlands Checkpoint on September 3, 2014.
01:09Ravi said Panir's only recourse now is for the Malaysian government to urgently file
01:14an application at the International Court of Justice to challenge his execution under
01:18international human rights law.
