Govt urged to cut short food security emergency  AGRI Partylist Rep. Wilbert Lee, in a video message on Feb. 15, 2025 urges the government not to prolong the food security emergency it declared to control the prices of rice and other food items. 00:00It's a good idea to have a food security emergency to lower the price of rice in the market.

00:06But there should be a clear timeline on how the local farmers can help.

00:13We can't be under an emergency for a long time.

00:18The NFS mandate should also prioritize our own rice farmers.

00:23It's a pity for our farmers if they have to rely on importation to replenish their rice stocks.

00:31The government should buy rice from local farmers at a reasonable price

00:37so that they can increase their production, lower the price of food, and buy from the market.

00:45A food security emergency would also be ineffective unless the government takes decisive action against cartels and individuals artificially inflating rice prices.

00:56There should be a sample and a trial.

00:59It doesn't matter if it's a short-term solution from the government, like a food security emergency,

01:05if in the end, demons and criminals continue to invade the lives of our local farmers.

01:14Aside from additional support for post-harvest facilities such as cold storages, dryers, and rice mills,

01:22Kadiwa Stores Nationwide should also increase and make them permanent

01:27so that they can help our local food producers and consumers.

01:32While short-term solutions are being implemented,

01:35long-term solutions should also be implemented

01:38so that our local farmers, fishermen, local food producers, consumers, and most of all, the Filipino people can benefit.
