Living in UAE since 1948: This wall in Dubai tells story of 4 generations of Indian expat family

The UAE National Day is one of the main occasions when old-timers here recollect their fond memories associated with the country.  Though it is the same for Dubai-based Indian businessman Mohamed Riyaz Kilton, chairman of Kiltons Group, hardly a day goes without him reminiscing the legacy of four generations of his family in the UAE. The reason — an entire wall in his office reminds that story with several photos and documents from the time his grandfather first landed here in 1948. 00:00My family has been living in UAE since 1948 and we are here for four generations in UAE.

00:20My grandfather, Mr. Hamza Babakar, he came in 1948 and he started a restaurant in Sharjah

00:27and that restaurant is considered as one of the first restaurants in Sharjah and it's

00:34very proud that, you know, still that restaurant is protected by Sharjah Archaeological Department.

00:40And in 1962, my grandfather, he brought my father Abilkader Hamza to UAE and he also

00:48joined with my grandfather.

00:50My father's age was just 13 that time.

00:53Initially my father worked with my grandfather in his restaurant and later he got a job

00:58in Trueshell Oman Scouts in Sharjah.

01:01This all happened before the independence of UAE.

01:04After the formation of UAE, the UAE government, they sent my father to Germany for his studies

01:11and then he joined UAE Military Intelligence Department and served UAE for 31 years.

01:20And Mashallah, it's a pride for our family, you know, he achieved a good service certificate

01:26from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and Defense

01:31Minister of UAE.

01:32Truly my father and grandfather are my inspiration and now I am living with my kids and the fourth

01:38generation of our Kelton family in UAE and I wish this history continues.
