00:00Former Deputy Law and Institutional Reform Minister Ram Kapal Singh dismissed the claim

00:07that insufficient information was hampering the probe into the alleged mining scandal

00:13in Sabah.

00:15He described the claim as absurd, saying the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had vast

00:20powers of investigation at its disposal under the MACC Act.

00:27Ram Kapal said the leaked videos implicating several assemblymen had revealed enough information

00:34for MACC to invoke the various measures under the law.

00:39They include the powers of search and seizure, the interception of communications and investigations

00:45into the accounts of suspects.

00:47MACC Chief Azam Bakhi was recently reported as saying that a lack of information made

00:53it difficult for the agency to carry out a thorough investigation.

00:59In response, Ram Kapal said Azam's statement was unacceptable and seemed to indicate that

01:05MACC was not taking the investigation seriously.

01:10He also said Azam's remarks suggested that MACC had not or was unwilling to investigate

01:16the matter beyond the videos that have surfaced.
