00:00Celebrity marriages are all about hiding in plain sight, but sometimes secrets come out.
00:05Here are some things you probably shouldn't know about these high-profile couples.
00:10Though it's far from normal to have your wedding televised around the globe with two billion
00:14people watching, Will and Kate are refreshingly normal despite their royal status.
00:18From the way they met to their long road to the altar, the strangest things about Will
00:21and Kate's marriage are the same things that most married couples deal with.
00:25Though they had met once before through mutual friends, it was Kate's catwalk during a charity
00:29fashion show in 2002 at St. Andrew's that had Prince William scrambling to win a date
00:33with his future wife.
00:34In 2011, the year of Will and Kate's wedding, the notorious sheer dress designed by Charlotte
00:38Todd sold at auction for a whopping £78,000.
00:42The buyer, who remained anonymous, said it was an iconic piece and that he was happy
00:45with the purchase.
00:47You think your breakup was bad?
00:48Try being in a long-term relationship with the future King of England.
00:52According to Marsha Moody's biography, in 2006, Will and Kate had been together for
00:55four years by then.
00:56By 2007, the couple was spending more time apart.
00:59When William did return to London, he went out to club — without Kate.
01:02By March 2007, they had officially broken up.
01:05Kate, for her part, put on a brave face, but William began having second thoughts.
01:09Though they weren't seated together, only a few months later, in July 2007, Kate was
01:13an invited guest at Will and Harry's concert for Diana.
01:16That seemed to signal that the couple had reconciled.
01:19On top of being the first commoner to marry a future English king, Kate was also the oldest
01:23British royal bride at the time of their wedding in 2011, at the ripe old age of 29.
01:27In the long tradition of royal marriage, royal brides were usually teenagers.
01:31There were some exceptions, though.
01:32Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of Henry VIII, was 30.
01:35Historians estimate Anne Boleyn, Henry's second wife, to have been about 32 when she married
01:39Henry.
01:40But unlike William, he was already a reigning king.
01:42In more modern comparisons, Princess Diana was just 20 when she married Charles, and
01:45the Queen Elizabeth was just 21 when she married Prince Philip.
01:49Despite advice from royal advisors, William reportedly refused a prenuptial agreement
01:53on his wedding to Kate.
01:54According to one of his friends, William was advised that some sort of legal agreement
01:57might be a good idea.
01:59But he loves Kate and trusts her implicitly, and was adamant that no agreement was necessary.
02:03No small feat for the British royal family, whose recent divorces — most notably, that
02:06of William's parents, Charles and Diana — have left the monarchy scrambling with how to deal
02:10with royal splits.
02:12Fans of the royal couple may have noticed over the years that William does not wear
02:15a wedding band.
02:16Early on in the marriage, William addressed the issue, with his aides claiming it was
02:19simply a matter of personal preference, as William does not like to wear jewelry.
02:23He may have picked up the quirk from his grandfather, Prince Philip, who has never worn a ring.
02:26Kate, on the other hand, does wear a simple gold Welsh band, a longstanding tradition
02:30of the English royal family, in addition to her engagement ring, which belonged to Princess
02:33Diana.
02:35In an interview with the BBC right after their engagement, when asked about the pressures
02:38of public life, William revealed he wanted to give Kate a chance to back out if the royal
02:42lifestyle wasn't for her, saying,
02:44I wanted to give her a chance to see in and to back out if she needed to before it all
02:47got too much.
02:48I'm trying to learn from lessons done in the past, and I just wanted to give her the best
02:51chance to settle in and to see what happens on the other side."
02:54It's easy to see that theirs is a true marriage for love, with all the challenges that go
02:57with it, from William's partying a bit too hard on a ski weekend to Kate managing Prince
03:01George's bad behavior at Pippa's wedding.
03:04Royals.
03:05They're just like us.
03:06Who knew?
03:07Even before she became the president's daughter, Ivanka Trump has lived her entire life in
03:11the public eye.
03:12So it's no surprise that as an adult, Ivanka has maintained a tightly controlled public
03:17image of herself and her marriage to fellow real estate mogul Jared Kushner.
03:22Jared Kushner's devout faith in Orthodox Judaism reportedly led he and Ivanka to temporarily
03:28split a few years back.
03:29The problem laid primarily with Kushner's father, Charles Kushner, who was the one who
03:33pushed for Ivanka to convert before allowing them to marry.
03:37A guest at their wedding said the elder Kushner even brought up the subject in his toast to
03:41the newlyweds at the reception, saying something along the lines of,
03:45"'Look, everyone thinks she's great, but being Jewish is just unbelievably important to us,
03:50and she's not Jewish.
03:51It's a problem for me, a genuine problem.
03:54Then I watched and got to see she's in love with my son and it wasn't what I thought in
03:57the beginning.
03:58I feel right about it.'"
03:59How's that for botched mazel tov?
04:02But if Ivanka felt any kind of pressure over the conversion, she doesn't seem to anymore.
04:06She now feels that her newfound faith has blended both the modern and traditional aspects
04:11of her life as well as strengthened their family.
04:13She told Vogue,
04:14"...I really find that with Judaism, it creates an amazing blueprint for family connectivity."
04:19She added that observing the Sabbath allows the busy parents to disconnect and unwind
04:23each week from their busy schedules.
04:26Speaking of which...
04:27If you asked most married couples to compliment each other, one of the last things they would
04:31cite would be a resume item.
04:33But Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner aren't most couples.
04:37Prior to joining Trump's administration, they were both leaders of powerful, multibillion-dollar
04:41real estate organizations.
04:43Ivanka held a leadership role in the Trump Organization, and Jared was CEO of Kushner
04:48Companies, his family's real estate empire, as well as majority shareholder and publisher
04:52of The Observer.
04:53As you can imagine, these executive positions, while clearly rewarding, consume a lot of
04:58time and energy.
04:59Ivanka has said she works 12- to 14-hour days, and speaking to Harper's Bazaar, she boasted
05:04her pride in always arriving before everyone else at the office.
05:08That kind of drive must have been a huge turn-on for Kushner, who actually met Trump during
05:12what was supposed to be a business meeting.
05:14And that transactional nature has continued throughout their marriage.
05:17The couple's wedding program even allegedly included a marketing flyer for one of Donald
05:22Trump's golf courses, a claim which Ivanka denies.
05:25But it's kind of believable, considering how Kushner described their marriage to Vogue,
05:29saying,
05:30"[Trump and Ivanka Trump say she is definitely the CEO of our household, whereas I'm more
05:34on the board of directors."
05:35Whoa, calm down there, Casanova.
05:38Even their date nights are reportedly business-oriented, as he most likes to take her to his newest
05:43property acquisitions.
05:45Unlike her party girl half-sister Tiffany, Ivanka Trump has always seemed like an old
05:50soul.
05:51She told Purple magazine,
05:52"[Partying was never a major part of my life.
05:54I don't drink a lot.
05:55I've always preferred quiet settings, like dinners."
05:58That's probably the reason Ivanka and Chelsea Clinton have gotten along so well.
06:02"...and our friendship didn't start in politics.
06:04It certainly is not going to end because of politics."
06:07Outside of that high-profile friendship, though, Ivanka was never really one for the scene.
06:12According to Esquire, Kushner tends to surround himself with older captains of industry, which
06:16was evident at his 35th birthday celebration in which one guest described the median age
06:21of partygoers as somewhere near 70.
06:24And this probably works just fine for Ivanka, who once said,
06:28"...Jared and I will go walk around neighborhoods and look at properties that he owns and that
06:32I own.
06:33But that's fun."
06:34So, chances are, you won't find these guys at your friendly neighborhood kegger anytime
06:38soon.
06:39Though Ivanka is definitely more extroverted than her husband, neither she nor Jared come
06:44close to matching the huge personalities of their fathers.
06:47Donald Trump is obviously less poised than his daughter, and Charles Kushner, Jared's
06:51father, is also a tenacious businessman with a controversial personality.
06:55In fact, both Donald Trump and Charles Kushner have also been embroiled in their share of
07:00scandals, with Kushner actually serving two years in jail for a series of bizarre crimes
07:04including tampering with elections and arranging to blackmail his own sister.
07:08So, while they both stem from outlandish dads, Ivanka and Jared are actually pretty polished,
07:14all things considered.
07:15For all of the speculation and media scrutiny surrounding the Trump family, Jared and Ivanka's
07:20marriage actually shows no signs of strain.
07:22Granted, they play everything extremely close to the chest, but most normal marriages would
07:27falter under the stress of just the 24-hour media coverage, let alone the privacy intrusion
07:32of a presidential election.
07:33But Jared and Ivanka's marriage is anything but normal, and the introduction of the stressful
07:37world of politics has only seemed to strengthen their bond.
07:41Ivanka told Vogue that Jared is her ideal partner because his drive and ambitions match
07:46her own, saying,
07:47"...his own dreams are bold, and I love that in someone."
07:50Of course, that's just one way to put it.
07:52Another source close to the couple, speaking to Esquire, described them a bit more cynically,
07:57saying,
07:58"...power, power, power, power.
08:01Jared's got plenty of money, but the only way he can separate himself from his family
08:05is power.
08:06They're a great match because that's also what Ivanka is after."
08:10Denzel Washington and Pauletta Parison met in 1977.
08:14Over the last four decades, they've managed to build a family and maintain a marriage
08:18in a time and place where that seems almost unheard of.
08:22How have they done it?
08:23For years, unsubstantiated rumors have claimed that Denzel has been stepping out.
08:28In 2003, tabloids alleged that Denzel was not only having an affair with his Out of
08:33Time co-star Sanaa Lathan, but that she was pregnant with his child.
08:37Lathan flatly denied the claim, telling Vibe,
08:40"...the rumor got started because the movie had a love scene with Denzel, and people took
08:44that and translated it to real life.
08:46It's frustrating.
08:47People are going to talk no matter what."
08:49More rumors surfaced in 2013, when Denzel was supposedly either romancing a mystery
08:54blonde or else having an affair with Two Guns co-star Paula Patton.
08:59Then in 2016, rumors swirled that Denzel and Pauletta were getting a divorce due to his
09:04supposed cheating, but Denzel has consistently denied those rumors, and so far, the couple
09:09is still going strong.
09:11Their marriage may be the stuff of Hollywood legend now, but it didn't get off to the best
09:15start.
09:16Denzel has publicly stated for years that she ended up paying for their first date.
09:20But Denzel has a different story, claiming that he paid for most of it right up until
09:25an unexpectedly long cab ride strained his bank account too far.
09:29"...and the meter's going and I'm going, oh, now how far away does she live?"
09:34"...oh, right, yeah, she paid."
09:37That might explain why she actually said no the first two times he proposed, only accepting
09:42on the third proposal.
09:44But even then, the wedding had its hiccups too, as the reception ran out of food before
09:48the couple had a chance to eat.
09:50They ended up having to go to a local diner for fast food on their own wedding day.
09:55Denzel Washington is one of Hollywood's famously religious stars, and it's evident in some
09:59of his movies, like Book of Eli.
10:02It's not surprising, either, given that his father was a Pentecostal preacher.
10:06According to Christianity Today, he not only chooses roles that are in line with his values,
10:10but he prays and reads the Bible every morning.
10:13And Pauletta shares that faith.
10:14In fact, the couple worked together on an audio version of the Bible called The Bible
10:19Experience.
10:20When they spoke to CBS News about just what it was that drew them to the project, they
10:24both spoke about their steadfast belief that any answer to any problem could be found in
10:28the pages of the good book, and that participating in making an audio version of that was going
10:33to make it accessible to countless people.
10:35For Pauletta's part, she considered it not only a privilege to work on the project, but
10:39to do so with her husband.
10:41It's an outline, I thought, for the original design of marriage."
10:50Many actors and actresses spend their time championing a chosen cause or two, and Denzel
10:55and Pauletta Washington are known for doing the same.
10:58For instance, the couple have established a scholarship fund at Cedars-Sinai, the Pauletta
11:02and Denzel Washington Family Gifted Scholars Program in neuroscience.
11:07The fund provides training opportunities for medical students as well as the financial
11:11means to partner young students with researchers in their particular field of interest.
11:16And in 2016, they jointly hosted a fundraiser for the Smithsonian's National Museum of African-American
11:22History and Culture, raising over $17 million.
11:25The idea came from a family trip to the Holocaust Museum in Israel.
11:30Pauletta told Variety,
11:31"'I asked my kids about it after we left and I could tell it haunted them, too.
11:35But it also made them think about their own history and they asked me where was a place
11:39that told our African-American story.
11:41That hit me because I didn't know at the time this museum was in the making."
11:45Hollywood is famous for scandals and short-term relationships, so it's no surprise that everyone
11:50wants to know the secret behind the Washingtons' long marriage.
11:54Denzel said on Reddit that,
11:55"...I just think that you have to work at it, not give up on each other.
11:58It's a commitment.
11:59It's not all the honeymoon, it doesn't last forever, so you work at it.
12:03But hopefully you're good friends first.
12:05That might help."
12:06Sometimes, people get married for the right reasons.
12:08"...I got a good woman, that's the first thing, and, uh, you know, just keep working at it."
12:13And Pauletta backed him up in a 2013 Ebony interview, saying there are plenty of ups
12:18and downs, but it's all part of making a lifelong commitment.
12:21"...I live with this man.
12:23I see the down part.
12:24I see the sad part.
12:25I see every part.
12:27He has and knows he has that stability in me as his wife.
12:30That gives him strength, regardless of if he misuses it.
12:33I can't dwell on that, but I do know that gives him a great platform to go and fly."
12:38This pop superstar and his childhood friend-turned-wife have a long and epic love story, but no couple
12:44is just pure perfection, and no lasting relationship is without its share of quirks.
12:48Let's take a closer look inside Ed Sheeran's marriage.
12:52Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn met in their hometown of Suffolk, England, when the singer
12:56was just 11 years old.
12:57They were both students at Thomas Mills High School as teens, and Sheeran has since admitted
13:02to crushing on Seaborn even back then.
13:04But he never got the chance to act on those feelings when they were classmates.
13:07The future spouses went their separate ways when Seaborn moved to the United States to
13:11attend Duke University in North Carolina.
13:13Meanwhile, Sheeran, of course, focused on growing his music career.
13:16A source told British magazine Heat in 2015,
13:19"...there was always something there between them.
13:21Ed had a crush on Cherry at school, but she had a boyfriend then.
13:24I don't think Ed wants to date another celebrity again, having been burned too many times,
13:28and Cherry is definitely his type."
13:30Sheeran's 2017 song, Castle on the Hill, is about his teen years, and the music video
13:35features a young cast clearly meant to mirror the group of friends Sheeran grew up with.
13:39The red-headed lead has a cute blonde love interest who could be interpreted to represent
13:43a younger version of Seaborn.
13:45Ed Sheeran is known to be refreshingly down-to-earth, so it was no surprise when he famously took
13:50a year off in 2016 as a chance to reboot and get his priorities in order.
13:54Off the break, he explained to People,
13:56"...life's all about balance, and I wasn't getting the balance right.
13:58I bought a bicycle and started cycling to my girlfriend's house.
14:02We cycled together every day and had pub lunches.
14:04I'd be the lone boyfriend on the side of the pitch watching our hockey games, not bringing
14:08security with me everywhere.
14:09Stuff like that."
14:10Sheeran later revealed that taking a break from his showbiz life helped him nurture his
14:14new romance.
14:15Sheeran told Zane Lowe on Beats 1 Radio,
14:17"...this has been the first time I've ever actually had the time to fall in love properly.
14:22What we were just basically like, let's both quit our jobs and have a year of forming a
14:25tight bond.
14:26So we went traveling and spent every day for a year together."
14:30Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn are pet parents to two of the cutest cats on the internet,
14:34Dorito and Kalippo.
14:35These adorable kittens are clearly an important part of Sheeran and Seaborn's lives, and like
14:39many loving pet owners, the power couple even started a dedicated Instagram account to document
14:44their fur babies' lives.
14:46Sheeran told People,
14:47"...me and Cherry literally had them from birth, and they think that we're their mother, from
14:50our warmth and our smells."
14:51"...I've seen this behavior before.
14:54In cats."
14:56Dorito and Kalippo have been a huge part of Sheeran and Seaborn's relationship.
15:00Back in January 2018, when Sheeran announced his engagement to Seaborn on his Instagram
15:05account, he also revealed that the feline members of the household were also excited
15:08about the news.
15:09He wrote,
15:10"...got myself a fiancé just before New Year.
15:12We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well."
15:16One of Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn's first real dates came when he brought her as his
15:20guest to his longtime friend Taylor Swift's annual 4th of July party in 2015.
15:25The date became their official dating anniversary, and Swift even celebrated their one-year anniversary
15:30at her party the following year.
15:31The lover-singer also revealed one of the first pictures of Sheeran and Seaborn kissing
15:36in an Instagram post from the party.
15:38Sheeran told People of the special day in his relationship,
15:40"...well, our anniversary is our 4th of July party.
15:43I went to Taylor's 4th of July party.
15:45I was texting Seaborn, and she was like, I'm in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party, and
15:50I was like, so am I.
15:51I kinda said to Taylor, can I invite one of my old schoolmates?
15:54The rest is history."
15:56Although Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn didn't actually tie the knot until January 2019,
16:01rumors flew long before then that they had secretly married.
16:03In February 2018, Ed was spotted wearing a silver ring on his ring finger at the Brit
16:08Awards, which led to a lot of speculation that the couple had wed in a secret ceremony.
16:13On the red carpet for that event, Sheeran revealed to Lorraine,
16:15"...I'm not married.
16:16I never saw why men didn't wear engagement rings.
16:19It's the same commitment either way.
16:20Cherry made it for herself out of silver clay.
16:22I really like it.
16:23I haven't told anyone that either."
16:25In an interview with Sky News, Sheeran reiterated that the accessory was his way of showing
16:29his commitment to Seaborn before their wedding.
16:31"...It's an engagement ring.
16:33I feel like it's good to both do things."
16:35Many people think Perfect is Ed Sheeran's most romantic song ever.
16:39Even though actress Zoe Deutsch plays Sheeran's love interest in the music video, it was inspired
16:43by the singer's real love life.
16:45Sheeran revealed that his wife, Cherry Seaborn, was the inspiration behind the swoon-worthy
16:49track, and told Us Weekly,
16:50"...Perfect was the first song that I wrote for the album.
16:53It was inspired by Cherry.
16:54I didn't see her first reaction to the song because she lived in New York at the time,
16:58so I just emailed it to her, but she did really like it."
17:01Nothing says true love quite like casually emailing your partner a song that's about
17:04them and is so romantic it's guaranteed to be played at a thousand weddings.
17:09In July 2019, more than a year and a half after announcing his engagement, Ed Sheeran
17:14finally publicly confirmed that he and Cherry Seaborn had wed.
17:17In true Sheeran fashion, the announcement came in the form of a song, in a line from
17:21Remember the Name, in which he refers to her as his wife.
17:24Even though Sheeran and Seaborn were officially husband and wife by the time the song made
17:28it to the airwaves, the singer hadn't yet put a ring on it when he penned the lyric.
17:32Sheeran explained in an interview on YouTube,
17:34"...It was actually before me and Cherry got married, and I knew that we'd be married by
17:37the point that the song came out."
17:39Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have one of the most enduring marriages not just in country
17:44music but possibly in Hollywood as a whole.
17:47The unfairly attractive couple have been married since 1996 and share three daughters, Gracie,
17:52Audrey, and Maggie.
17:54They don't just share a family, they also share a brand.
17:57They've toured together and even recorded an entire album of sugary duets, The Rest
18:01of Our Life.
18:02That brand is lucrative, especially on the road.
18:06Billboard reports that Hill and McGraw's first joint tour in 2000, dubbed Soul to Soul, grossed
18:11$47.8 million.
18:14Their second, Soul to Soul II, from 2006 through 2007, grossed a whopping $141 million, making
18:21it the highest-grossing country tour of all time.
18:24Their 2017 Soul to Soul World Tour raked in $71.3 million.
18:30In the early stages of Hill and McGraw's couplehood, Hill was the biggest star, Billboard noted,
18:36enjoying crossover pop success with Breathe and The Way You Love Me in the late 1990s.
18:41McGraw said that during that period, while Hill did press, McGraw stayed home and watched
18:46the kids, joking that he was just Mr. Hill at the time.
18:49Eventually, the tables turned and Hill's crossover success waned while McGraw became a country
18:54megastar.
18:55And when they first teamed up to work together, their careers soared higher than ever.
18:59Hill was engaged to record producer Scott Hendricks when she hit it off with McGraw
19:03in 1996, and she doesn't regret it.
19:06She told People in 1998,
19:08"'If someone is going to judge my character because I was engaged to somebody and then
19:12I left him for somebody else, I can't control that.
19:15But I wasn't about to let Tim slip through my hands.'"
19:17McGraw, meanwhile, admitted to Billboard that he had a girlfriend when he first met Hill
19:22in 1994, and his girlfriend felt threatened by McGraw's chemistry with the blonde bombshell.
19:28He recalled,
19:29"'For me, there was an intense physical attraction.
19:31I guess my girlfriend saw it in my eyes.
19:33She said, I don't want you around her.'"
19:35He later revealed on The Kelly Clarkson Show that he wooed Hill with one of their favorite
19:40cheat meals.
19:41"'Chicken and dumplings' is a big go-to at our house.
19:44That's sort of how I hooked Faith, was with chicken and dumplings."
19:47Since the inception of their romance, one of Hill and McGraw's hallmarks has been their
19:51frequent public displays of affection and openness about their love lives with the public.
19:56Hill told People that their tour bus was nicknamed the Love Bus, admitting,
20:00"'A lot goes on in that bus.'"
20:02Music writer and McGraw's former publicist Holly Gleason put it plainly to People, saying,
20:07"'Watching Tim and Faith on stage is like two hours of total foreplay.
20:11It's sexy.
20:12It's adult.'"
20:13Not only did McGraw get seriously ripped over the years, he also got sober in 2008.
20:17He admitted to Oprah's Masterclass in 2014 that before he quit drinking, he needed liquid
20:23courage to perform live, and it ended up getting way out of hand.
20:26"'And it got to the point where I knew that I drank too much, and I knew that it was affecting
20:31my personal relationships.'"
20:33McGraw admitted to People,
20:35"'Without Hill, I'd be dead.
20:37Oh yeah, I would have partied too hard.'"
20:39McGraw didn't go to rehab or participate in a 12-step program.
20:42He claims he just stopped, for his family.
20:45For whatever reason, McGraw and Hill are often plagued by rumors of marital discord.
20:50It usually doesn't phase them too much, but it irks them every once in a while.
20:54Discussing the constant rumors, Hill told People in 2000,
20:57"'I've had an affair with my makeup artist, a female, an affair with my hair stylist,
21:02my marriage is on the rocks, Maggie is not Tim's child, the naysayers, I don't need their
21:06approval.
21:07I have too much going on.
21:09If that's their entertainment, fine.'"
21:11In 2013, the couple denied reports that they were divorcing.
21:14A source told Closer Weekly that Hill was horrified after McGraw collapsed on stage
21:19for fear he may have been drinking again, but it turned out the crooner was just super
21:23dehydrated.
21:24Clearly, they've worked through any tough spots, but that hasn't stopped similar gossip
21:28headlines from continuing to pop up.
21:30Still, as it stands, the couple remains as blissfully happy as ever.
21:34Haters be damned.
21:36Mariska Hargitay is one of the most recognizable faces in television, but did you know she's
21:41married to Younger star Peter Herman?
21:43After more than 15 years together, here's what you don't know about this adorable Tinseltown
21:48couple.
21:49The pair met on Law & Order SVU in November 2001 when Herman debuted his recurring character,
21:54defense attorney Trevor Langan.
21:56Hargitay, who has starred on the series since 1999, attempted to break the ice with a joke,
22:01but told InStyle,
22:02"'He didn't think I was funny.'"
22:04The two eventually found common ground in their shared faith.
22:07Following a deep discussion about religion, Herman suggested they attend a service at
22:11his church together.
22:12As Hargitay told InStyle,
22:13"'I just about passed out when I saw him there.
22:16I thought, that's my husband.'"
22:17The SVU star told Good Housekeeping that their strong Christian faith completely set the
22:22tone for our relationship and our marriage.
22:25The pair married three years later on August 28, 2004, in Santa Barbara, California in
22:30front of 200 guests at the Unitarian Historical Chapel.
22:33The groom, then 37, told InStyle,
22:35"'I recited my vows so loudly you could have heard them in organ.'"
22:39Hargitay told Good Housekeeping in 2010,
22:41"'I'd been engaged before, but what I felt for Peter I had never felt before.
22:46It was knowing that someone else put you first and that you put him first.
22:49A lot of people have doubts on their wedding day, but I was never so sure and happy.'"
22:55Hargitay and Herman always wanted to have kids, and got their wish when they welcomed
22:59their son, August, on June 28, 2006.
23:02Hargitay told Self,
23:03"'Nobody wanted to be pregnant more than me.
23:06From the moment I found out I was wearing full-on maternity pants, my stomach was totally
23:10flat mind you, but I was just so excited.'"
23:12She told TV Guide,
23:14"'When I first heard August's cry, that's when I lost it.
23:17You have so much love that you didn't even know about.'"
23:19But Hargitay was 42 at the time, and it was a difficult pregnancy.
23:23When the couple decided to further expand their family, Hargitay had trouble getting
23:27pregnant, so they turned to adoption.
23:29She told Good Housekeeping,
23:30"'There were wrenching moments.
23:32I say to everybody, adoption is not for the faint of heart.'"
23:35The couple finally adopted two children six months apart in 2011, following several heartbreaking
23:41attempts that had fallen through.
23:43In April 2011, they welcomed newborn daughter Amaya Josephine, whom Hargitay helped deliver.
23:48They then welcomed three-month-old son Andrew that October.
23:52Hargitay and Herman both speak several languages, something they hope to pass on to their children.
23:57Herman explained his linguistic heritage, telling Broadway.com,
24:00"'I was born in New York, but I was only here for two months.
24:03My parents are German, and I grew up in Germany for my first 10 years.
24:07I still speak to my parents only in German.'"
24:09Hargitay doesn't speak German, but is fluent in Hungarian, Italian, and French.
24:15According to Variety, Hargitay and Herman moved their family to a newly-renovated $10.7
24:20million townhouse on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in 2012.
24:24As the New York Post reported, their Big Apple dream home has six bedrooms and nine baths,
24:29as well as has an elevator, an eat-in chef's kitchen, and double-height ceilings.
24:34It also includes a sunroom with two terraces, plus a large garden with a built-in barbecue
24:39grill.
24:40It's safe to say that country music sensation Shania Twain's love story is anything but
24:45generic.
24:46It's a story that involves all the ups and downs of a cinematic masterpiece.
24:50Here's a look inside the marriage of one of country music's all-time biggest stars.
24:55Twain, like so many celebrities before her who reached mega-fame, craved time away from
25:00the spotlight.
25:02As she explained on The Ellen DeGeneres Show,
25:04I just really needed to take a break.
25:07Switzerland was just a place that I could go and be very quiet, and I became a mom,
25:11and it was just a great place to start that part of my life."
25:14It was there that Twain met Frederick and Marianne Thiebaud.
25:18On Oprah, Frederick dished,
25:19"...my ex-wife started to work for them, and that's how we got to know them."
25:24Marianne was Twain's assistant and managed Shania and her then-husband Robert Mutt Lange's
25:2946-room chateau in Switzerland, according to the Belfast Telegraph.
25:34Twain told DeGeneres,
25:35"...Fred and I did not have a one-on-one relationship at all.
25:38It was quite a formal relationship, really."
25:41The families grew close and generally spent holidays together.
25:45As the singer explained on Oprah,
25:47"...Fred and Mutt were good friends, and Marianne and I were good friends.
25:51She was my confidant, somebody who understood what my concerns were in my marriage."
25:57Twain added that she always trusted Marianne's judgments, saying,
26:00"...I said, Marianne, don't you think my husband is acting strange?
26:04And she said, no, I don't see anything strange."
26:07When Thiebaud discovered his wife Marianne was having an affair with Twain's husband
26:11Mutt, he told Twain,
26:13"...and spoiler alert, it didn't go well.
26:15As Frederick revealed on Oprah, I did discover the affair with my wife and Mutt.
26:20And I said, guys, now you have to tell Shania.
26:23This is ridiculous.
26:24You just owe her that.
26:26And they didn't want to do it.
26:27So I had to tell her."
26:29Then Frederick found phone bills and hotel receipts and recalled seeing lingerie and
26:34a garter belt in Marianne's suitcase from one of her solo trips, according to the Daily
26:38Mail.
26:39Twain admitted to being in denial and wanted an explanation from Mutt and Marianne.
26:44She told DeGeneres,
26:45"...I called her up.
26:46I wanted to give her the opportunity to tell me herself without me accusing her.
26:51And she said, no, I don't understand why you'd think I would
26:54ever hide anything from you."
26:56Mutt and Marianne denied having an affair.
26:59After Marianne ignored Twain's calls and changed her phone number, Twain emailed her, saying,
27:04"...please leave us in peace.
27:06If you could see me crying and suffering, maybe you would have pity.
27:10Find love somewhere else, from someone else that isn't hurting two families so much."
27:16Twain's story proves fame and wealth don't protect against adversity.
27:20Specifically, the double whammy of discovering your hubby and your BFF are off in cahoots
27:25without you?
27:26A bummer, to say the least.
27:28She explained to Oprah,
27:29"...suffering does not discriminate.
27:31No one is above this type of low."
27:33A broken Twain explained she'd basically given up on life, adding,
27:37"...there were days when I really just was like, I just don't even really care if tomorrow
27:42comes."
27:43In addition to the nightmare she found herself in, Twain noticed her anxiety negatively impacted
27:48her Lyme disease.
27:50She told the Belfast Telegraph,
27:51"...I lost my voice from Lyme disease.
27:53The stress of the divorce added to the dysphonia, which is a tension around the larynx.
27:59The divorce is part of it, but it wasn't the root of it."
28:02Twain was forced to undergo multiple throat surgeries and feared that she'd lose the vocal
28:06cords that built her career.
28:08She told Today,
28:09"...it was devastating.
28:11I was very, very sad about it, to the point where I felt I had no other choice but to
28:16just accept it."
28:18The invasive surgery did affect Twain's voice, but birthed a new gravel tone that she's enthusiastic
28:23about.
28:24She said,
28:25"...I think it's kind of sexy.
28:26I'm never going to have my old voice again.
28:28I'm okay with that.
28:30I found a new voice, and I like it."
28:33New love can be the furthest thing from your mind while dealing with severe heartbreak.
28:37But as Twain gushed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, an unexpected love blossomed out of
28:42a strenuous shared experience.
28:44She explained,
28:45"...we slowly became very, very good friends.
28:48We had many months of just trying to make sense of everything.
28:51Holding each other up was a very difficult time emotionally for both of us, and really
28:56found something very beautiful in the end, and unexpected."
29:00Inspired by Thibaut's calm composure, the Canadian country singer said she gradually
29:05began to see him in a new light.
29:07She told Redbook,
29:08"...you see all their anger, how they handle their grief, their desperation, and he did
29:13it beautifully and was able to give me support at the same time.
29:17I admired him first.
29:19I think that's very important."
29:21Of course, every woman has a laundry list of qualities she looks for in a life mate.
29:26In addition, sharing a life with someone who you can learn from and who inspires you to
29:30be a better person also falls somewhere on the list under Swiss banking account.
29:35Luckily for Twain, Thibaut had all the above.
29:38Swiss-born Frederic Thibaut is an executive for the food and beverage company Nestle.
29:44Born on August 1, 1970, Thibaut is five years younger than Twain.
29:48It's reported that Thibaut even fell in love with music as a kid and had aspirations of
29:53becoming a singer, according to Country Daily.
29:56While Brad Pitt may not impress Twain much, she knows the moment she realized she'd fallen
30:01for Thibaut.
30:02She dished to Redbook,
30:03"...I got to observe Fred going through the same thing I was, and I admired how he handled
30:08it.
30:09I think that is where I fell in love with him, because he was so exemplary in every
30:13way."
30:14Twain even credits Thibaut for being her, quote, "...count to ten."
30:18She explained,
30:19"...Fred has shown me through example how to stop, listen, think, and then express myself
30:25instead of immediately saying things I might wind up regretting.
30:28Trust me, that's hard for a girl who grew up cursing hockey refs."
30:33Twain made her relationship official on her 44th birthday on August 29, 2009, on her website.
30:40She wrote,
30:41"...a dear friend and true gentleman by the name of Fred has been the most constant companion
30:45of support for both Asia and me.
30:48And having gone through the suffering of his family splitting apart at the same time, under
30:52the same extreme circumstances, he understood me better than anyone.
30:56We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other up.
31:02We've become stronger and closer through it all.
31:04As have our children, Asia and Johanna."
31:08According to People magazine, Thibaut finally proposed the following year with a three-carat
31:13solitaire diamond ring.
31:15On Oprah, Twain's beau said,
31:17"...She's a true angel.
31:19That's what I think."
31:20On January 1, 2011, the pair married in Puerto Rico in an intimate ceremony.
31:25Twain proudly told People,
31:27"...my closest friends and family say they haven't seen me this free-spirited and happy
31:31in years.
31:32And it's true.
31:34It's definitely true."
31:35In this love story, Twain and Thibaut prove the honeymoon phase never has to end.
31:41Twain gave fans a glimpse into her fairy tale relationship when she spoke about Thibaut's
31:45romantic gestures to Redbook.
31:47She revealed,
31:48"...The other day I was showering and he had to go out.
31:51He knew I hadn't eaten yet, and I had to go somewhere too.
31:54So before he left, he prepared me a salad.
31:57I could hear chopping and singing and I'm thinking, what is he doing?
32:00I came out of the bathroom and he'd set up a little table with a note saying, I love
32:05you, Fred, and there was a glass of wine and this beautiful salad with little tomatoes
32:10and flowers all around the edges."
32:12Prince Charming himself confessed the inspiration behind his romantic behavior, saying,
32:17"...to express my love, words are not enough.
32:20I'm more in love with her every day."
32:22Chocolates and flowers aside, Twain went on to tell Redbook about what drew her to him.
32:28She explained,
32:29"...Fred is not only nice, he's incredible.
32:31He's attentive, he shows what he feels, and that's a quality that could come in any shape
32:36or size and be admired.
32:38He's too good to be true.
32:40I'm loving every minute of it."
32:42The Canadian country singer may be one of the world's biggest stars, but behind closed
32:47doors, Twain is just like anyone else when it comes to enjoying romantic pastimes with
32:52her spouse.
32:53She told Redbook,
32:54"...kissing, talking, playing tennis, Fred hits hard and keeps me on my toes.
32:59I'd chase a ball for him any day."
33:01And let's be honest, famous or not, no couple escapes cheesy nicknames.
33:06The country singer admitted,
33:07"...we stare at each other a lot and call each other lovey names.
33:11I'm Sunshi, short for Sunshine, and he's Beauty Man because he's so darn beautiful."
33:16Undoubtedly handsome, Twain said her hubby's eyes are his best physical feature.
33:22She added,
33:23"...they're gentle, intelligent, and alluring, and such a beautiful shade of green.
33:27Fred's and Asia's eyes are exactly the same shade."
33:30The songstress noted that Tebow's compassion for others is what she loves most about her
33:35husband.
33:36She explained,
33:37"...Fred is a true gentleman.
33:39He waits for everyone else to begin eating before taking a bite.
33:43He's always concerned about world affairs and the interests of others."
33:47From chart-topping success and starting a family, to losing it all, and coming back
33:52stronger than ever, Twain has come full circle.
33:55Reflecting on her experience on Oprah, the artist revealed that she believes life has
33:59a way of working out the way it's supposed to.
34:02She said,
34:03"...sometimes I think bad things have to happen to us to give us perspective."
34:08The Honey I'm Home singer elaborated further during an interview with the Belfast Telegraph,
34:13explaining,
34:14"...I had to meet this horrible, betraying friend in order to meet this extraordinary
34:18man.
34:19And I had to meet Mutt to have this child, who is the absolute center of my life."
34:23Twain revealed that over time, she was able to fully process and understand the collapse
34:28of her marriage with Lange.
34:30She told Oprah,
34:31"...the fact that the marriage broke down is nobody's fault.
34:34That is just a mutual breakdown of communication between two people."
34:38And even though Twain admitted to being partially responsible for the fallout of her marriage,
34:42she's grateful for the emotional evolution and strength it gave her.
34:46She told the Belfast Telegraph,
34:48"...I never thought it was entirely my fault, but I certainly felt that I obviously missed
34:53something.
34:54Where have I been?
34:55Hello?
34:56How dumb can one be?
34:57I just felt very stupid.
35:00You put things in perspective over time."
35:02Amidst new love and re-strengthened vocal cords, Twain set her sights on resurrecting
35:07her singing career.
35:09But it wasn't as if she could just pick up from where she left off.
35:13She told the Belfast Telegraph,
35:14"...there were three albums and 15 years of our collaboration.
35:18So the fear was, not knowing where to begin after all that time, and knowing that the
35:22expectations would be high, because Mutt is a genius."
35:26Twain revealed her doubts pioneering a new path, adding,
35:29"...there were a lot of moments when I was just too afraid to tackle it.
35:33Maybe I should just leave it where it was."
35:35Ultimately, Twain decided her new material had to come from the heart, which produced
35:39a darker tone, both vocally and lyrically.
35:43Who's Gonna Be Your Girl?
35:44are lyrics expressing the dark and lonely crumbling of Twain's marriage.
35:49The singer explained to Rolling Stone,
35:51"...it's about feeling unappreciated and knowing that you are secondary, having to live with
35:55someone that has different priorities and accepting that you're not the most important
36:00thing in a person's life."
36:01Yikes.
36:02Meanwhile, Swinging With My Eyes Closed is a pretty self-explanatory track, yet heart-wrenching,
36:09with everything considered.
36:10On September 29, 2017, Twain released her fifth studio album, Now, which debuted at
36:16number one on the Billboard 200.
